Prior to the start of this series, the Blue Jays won three of four against the Yankees and are 6-4 SU over their last 10 games including 2-0 SU in this series. Despite being third in their division, Toronto is in a good position as they currently hold the second wild card spot in the AL division. The offense has been extremely productive throughout the season with a batting average of .262 (2nd), on base percentage of .324 (4th), slugging percentage of .430 (4th) and have scored 576 total runs (6th). Their bullpen has been quite as successful but still solid with a WHIP of 1.23 (11th) and team ERA of 3.84 (14th). The right-hander Kevin Gausman (9-9 SU, 2.99 ERA) is expected to start Thursday.  

Boston is currently dead last in the AL East standings, 16.0 behind the New York Yankees for first place. The Red Sox have struggled since returning from the All-Star break with a SU record of 12-19. Even the Wild Card race is slipping away from Boston as they find themselves seven games behind the Mariners for the third Wild Card spot. Their offense has done a respectable job this season with a batting average of .254 (7th), on base percentage of .315 (14th), slugging percentage of .406 (11th) and have scored 553 total runs (11th). The Red Sox’s bullpen has been their biggest weakness throughout the season with a WHIP of 1.32 (24th) and team ERA of 4.46 (25th). Right-handed pitcher Kutter Crawford (3-5, 5.14 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound Thursday.  

I like the Blue Jays to take game three of this series. Crawford has not been good for the Red Sox and gave up 11 hits and nine runs in his most recent outing against Baltimore. I expect Toronto’s high-powered offense to see similar success in this matchup. Backing Toronto runline here as there is not much value in playing the moneyline.

Kutter Crawford is on the hill for the Red Sox in this contest as he makes his 10th start of the season hoping to build some positive momentum. Boston’s 26-year-old right-hander lost his last start, which came on the road against the Baltimore Orioles August 19th.
