Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees Betting Analysis

The Yankees host the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium for Game second of a four-game series on Friday, September 23, 2022.

Boston remains 19 games behind the New York Yankees and is in fifth place in the American League East with a 72-77 record, despite going 35-40 away from Fenway Park. The Yankees sit in first place of the American League East with a 91-58 overall record, which has been helped by a robust 53-22 mark at home.

Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees Betting Prediction

The Red Sox dropped another half game back in the AL Wild Card standings Thursday night after losing to the Yankees 5-4 in 10 innings. This puts them nine and a half games behind the Mariners for the third Wild Card spot. Boston’s offense managed eight hits and four runs Thursday and have been solid on the season with a batting average of .259 (4th), on base percentage of .321 (6th), slugging percentage of .410 (9th) and have scored 678 total runs (10th). The bullpen did what they could against this Yankees offense but came up just short. This has been a common theme this season for Boston’s bullpen who have struggled on the season with a WHIP of 1.33 (24th) and team ERA of 4.45 (24th). The left hander Rich Hill (7-7, 4.70 ERA) is expected to start Friday.

New York has secured a playoff berth after Thursdays win over the Red Sox. They have not clinched the division yet, but worst-case scenario is they find themselves in a Wild Card game. This would only happen if they managed to blow a 7.5 game lead over the Blue Jays. The Yankees found themselves down 4-3 headed into the eighth inning on Thursday, but no problem as they managed to tie things up and win game one in 10 innings. You can never count this Yankees team out with an offense that has a batting average of .241 (17th), on base percentage of .324 (5th), slugging percentage of .429 (4th) and have scored 756 total runs. The bullpen has also been great with a WHIP of 1.12 (3rd) and team ERA of 3.36 (3rd). Right-handed pitcher Gerrit Cole (12-7, 3.41 ERA) is scheduled to start Friday.

The Yankees are heavy favorites in game two of this series at –200 (BetMGM). The offense continues to find ways to win and have been on a roll as of late, winning eight of their last 10 games. I like them here in game two but the moneyline offers no value. Backing New York runline as I think Cole will have a solid outing.

Score Prediction: Yankees 5, Red Sox 3
Best Bet: Yankees -1.5 (-110)
