Not too long ago, it seemed like the Eagles were on top of the world. The reigning NFC champs opened the season with an impressive 10-1 run, and it’s not like they were beating up on a bunch of scrubs either, as six of those 10 victories came against playoff teams – winning matchups over the Chiefs, Bills, Dolphins, Cowboys, Rams and Buccaneers during that span – and the biggest narrative in the league was “how do we stop the Tush Push?”

Well, the Brotherly Shove doesn’t seem to be a concern anymore. The Eagles’ two-year run of dominance came to a screeching halt in an ugly 42-19 loss to San Francisco in Week 13 – and quite frankly, Philly still hasn’t recovered. The Eagles are 1-5 in their last six games, and they scored less than 20 points in four of those contests – which is a mark they fell short of just once prior to their Week 13 matchup vs San Francisco.

Believe it or not though, Philly’s poor defensive play is actually the more worrisome issue. The Eagles have surrendered 25-plus points in six of their last seven games – and while granted, I’ll cut them some slack for getting carved up by the Bills, 49ers and Cowboys, there’s no excuse for giving up 35 points to the Cardinals and 27 to the Giants.

Having said that, this is more of a “fade” of the Bucs as opposed to a “bet” on the Eagles. 

With the NFC South division crown up for grabs the last two weeks, the Bucs offense completely bottomed out as they scored just 13 points in a loss to the Saints and 9 points in a win over the Panthers – capping off a campaign in which Tampa ranked 20th in both points scored and yards per play.

The Buccaneers are 1-5 in their six matchups against playoff teams this season, with their only win of that caliber coming in Week 15 against Green Bay. Tampa Bay simply isn’t battle-tested enough to warrant backing them against the pedigree of the Eagles – despite my faith in this Philly team continuing to dwindle each week.

In the aftermath of a gut-wrenching six-week stretch and all hope appearing to be lost, I think Philadelphia is finally destined to bounce back in this spot. I’m laying the points with the Birds.

Philadelphia Eagles Betting Analysis

The general betting audience still hasn’t forgotten about the consistent level of excellence displayed by this Eagles team over the last few years, and neither should you.

According to VegasInsider’s Patrick Everson, TwinSpires originally opened the spread for this contest at Eagles -2, and since then has shifted a full-point to -3 with Philly taking 58% of tickets and 66% of the money as of Thursday afternoon.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Betting Analysis

In the first matchup of the season between these teams, it seemed like the Buccaneers were pushing up against an immovable object as they fell behind Philly by a score of 13-3 early in the second quarter and never managed to claw their way back into the game on the way to a 25-11 loss.

However, that defeat certainly hasn’t aged well given the recent stretch of performances by the Eagles defense. 

My personal take on the matter is: the Bucs are very fortunate to be in this position. Whereas the Eagles simply aren’t quite as good as we originally thought. Philly is still the far better team in this matchup though.
