Week 3 of the NFL regular season concludes on Monday night with a rematch of Super Bowl LVI between the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals. Coverage begins from Paycor Stadium in Cincy at 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Matchup Spread Total Moneyline

According to VegasInsider’s Patrick Everson, the lookahead line for this game was originally Bengals -7.5 at TwinSpires. But that was before Joe Burrow re-aggravated a calf injury in Cincy's Week 2 loss to Baltimore. TwinSpires briefly reopened at Cincinnati -5, but that quickly fell to -3.5, and now stands at -2.5 due to the book taking roughly 2-to-1 ticket and money counts on the Rams as of Wednesday.

If Burrow was fully healthy, bettors would be all over Cincy in this home bounce-back spot after stumbling out of the gate to a rocky 0-2 start. However, most of the potential Bengals bettors are clearly still in wait-and-see mode with Burrow officially listed as questionable as of Sunday, which is fair, nobody wants to lay a field goal with Cincy if Jake Browning is under center.

However, even if Burrow plays on Monday night, are the Bengals actually destined to bounce back?

The Bengals offense was absolutely atrocious in their first two contests of the season, and Burrow was no exception to that claim. In Week 1, Burrow looked like he was seeing ghosts as he completed just 14 of 31 pass attempts for 83 yards in a 24-3 loss to Cleveland. And then in Week 2, things didn’t get much better, as the Bengals offense generated just 17 points on 282 total yards in a loss to Baltimore, but an 81-yard punt return touchdown by Charlie Jones made the game seem much closer than it really was, yielding a final score of 27-24.

This isn’t purely a fade of Cincinnati, though. The Rams have also played surprisingly well to open the season, and the way their offense is tracking actually makes their success seem somewhat sustainable moving forward, barring any detrimental health issues.

In Week 1, the Rams shredded Seattle’s defense for 30 points on 426 total yards on the way to a double-digit road victory in a game that they were four-point underdogs in. Then in Week 2, they gave the 49ers everything they could possibly handle in a one-score loss, as Matt Stafford and company racked up 386 total yards against one of the top defenses in the league, with the Rams’ -2 turnover differential serving as the true deciding factor in the loss.

Just to be clear, the Bengals offense gained a grand total of 424 yards in their first two games of the season. The Rams had 426 yards of total offense in Week 1. Don’t overthink this one. The Bengals have been terrible out of the gate and appear to be trending downward following the re-aggravation of Burrow’s calf injury. While on the flip side, the Rams looked much better than expected in tough divisional matchups against Seattle and San Francisco. More disappointment appears to be on the horizon for Bengals fans. I'm backing the short road underdog to win outright on Monday night.

Los Angeles Rams Betting Analysis

The Rams weren’t expected to make any noise in the NFC West as they begin to slowly phase out the veteran talent that helped them win a Super Bowl two years ago. Los Angeles entered this season with the ninth-youngest roster in the league at an average player age of 26 years and one month. 

However, for the moment, the head coach-quarterback combo of Stafford and McVay remains intact, and as long as that’s the case, the Rams offense still has the ability to deal some serious damage under the right set of circumstances.

Cincinnati Bengals Betting Analysis

Whenever Burrow’s status gets announced one way or the other, the spread for this matchup will likely move again. So, the question is, how long should you wait before betting on this Monday night contest?

In theory, if he plays, the spread probably gets moved a few points in the Bengals’ direction. If he doesn’t play, the Rams may flip to favorites. With the Bengals currently sitting at 0-2, though, my guess is that Burrow probably plays in what has the makings of a kitchen sink game for Cincy, potentially giving us a better number on Los Angeles in the hours leading up to kickoff. But personally, I’m going to go ahead and grab the plus money with the Rams now, on the off-chance that Burrow sits.
