Ravens vs Jaguars Betting Prediction & Odds for Sunday Night Football Week 15

Matchup Spread Total Moneyline

Just two weeks ago, the Jaguars found themselves comfortably sitting atop the AFC South standings as they entered Week 13 boasting a record of 8-3, with their only losses up to that point coming in tough matchups against the 49ers, Chiefs and Texans.

However, Jacksonville’s comfort level has quickly plummeted the last few weeks, as the Jaguars followed up their strong start with back-to-back losses to fall to a record of 8-5 and now own just a one-game lead over Indianapolis and Houston in a crowded division standings entering this week.

The spread for this contest favors Baltimore by a field goal on the road. But the oddsmakers certainly aren’t counting out Jacksonville. According to VegasInsider’s Patrick Everson, the SuperBook closed the lookahead line for this matchup at Ravens -6.5 last week, as Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence entered their latest affair tagged as questionable with a high ankle sprain, which in turn, projected an ambiguous future for this Jacksonville team. 

Lawrence looked relatively healthy in a 31-27 loss to Cleveland last week though, and the Ravens nearly lost at home to the Rams – so as a result, the line for this contest reopened at Baltimore -3 on Sunday evening as it became apparent that Jacksonville deserves far more respect in this spot.

However, even after the 3.5-point swing, I still find the spread for this matchup a little bit disrespectful to Jacksonville on its home turf. The last two weeks have been undeniably weird for the Jaguars. In Week 13, they lost to the Bengals in overtime, which was the game Lawrence exited with a high ankle sprain – and then last week, Lawrence wasn’t even expected to play, and he nearly led them to a victory in a shootout against a tough Cleveland defense.

Prior to their latest two-game skid, the Jaguars were one of the hottest teams in football coming off wins in seven of their last eight games, with their only loss during that stretch coming against the 49ers, who have proven to be an absolute buzz saw when healthy.

Push comes to shove: the Ravens are probably the slightly better team in this matchup, but the Jaguars are still very good, and they are much better than the Rams team that gave Baltimore everything it could handle at home last week. The Jaguars need to win this game far more than the Ravens do. Plus, Jacksonville has the advantage at home in this spot.

This is what some people like to call a “hungrier dog runs faster” game. Give me the home ‘dog on Sunday night.

Baltimore Ravens Betting Analysis

There’s no denying the fact that the Ravens have been one of the best (if not the best) teams in the league so far this season as they enter the week ranked Top 5 in scoring and DVOA on both sides of the ball. 

So, although I’m technically betting against Baltimore in this spot, I wouldn’t exactly call this a “fade of the Ravens” either. I fully acknowledge the Ravens as one of the top teams in the AFC. I just happen to believe that Jacksonville is also very good, and the gap between the Ravens and teams like the Jaguars is much closer than the odds currently indicate.

Jacksonville Jaguars Betting Analysis

This has the makings of an excellent buy-low spot for Jacksoville. Just two weeks ago, both of these teams sat at 8-3, and since that point, the Jaguars have lost back-to-back games while their QB played through a high ankle sprain.

Hypothetically, if the situation was reversed and Ravens QB Lamar Jackson sprained his ankle leading to Baltimore coming off back-to-back losses, Jacksonville would likely be favored by three points or more in this spot.

In the grand scheme of things, I believe these teams are pretty evenly matched at full strength. So, I’m going to back the home underdog that desperately needs to win this game while clinging to a one-game lead in the division standings.
