After finishing third in the NFC West with a record of 5-12 last year, the Rams weren’t expected to make much noise in terms of playoff contention this season – and as anticipated, they were quiet in the early goings. The Rams posted losses in six of nine contests to open the season to fall to a record of 3-6 entering their bye week, and the future didn’t look very bright with QB Matt Stafford sidelined due to a thumb injury and his overall health status unknown for the foreseeable future.

However, Stafford returned to action immediately following LA’s Week 10 bye, and to the surprise of many, the Rams have played near-perfect football since that point. The Rams enter this week following wins in four of their last five games, while scoring 28-plus points in four of those contests – and their only loss during that span came in an overtime shootout against a top shelf contender in Baltimore.

That said, the Saints are still well within striking distance of locking down a playoff spot, as they enter this contest tied with Tampa Bay atop the NFC South standings with a record of 7-7 coming off back-to-back blowout victories over the Panthers and Giants.

Not too long ago, however, the vast majority was deeply concerned about this New Orleans team, considering the Saints entered their latest two-game stretch (vs. two terrible teams) riding a three-game skid consisting of losses to the Vikings, Falcons, and Lions – while scoring 19 points or less in two of those contests, and surrendering 24-plus points on defense in all three.

The fact of the matter is, the Saints run up the score against bad defensive units and they struggle to score against the good ones – which has led to generally misleading scoring averages on both sides of the ball. New Orleans ranks 12th in points scored and 6th in points allowed. However, those numbers are heavily skewed by averaging 30.4 PPG in matchups against the Panthers, Giants, Patriots, Lions and Colts, as opposed to averaging just 17.4 PPG in their other nine contests.

Moving the ball up and down the field isn’t easy against LA, though. The Rams have held their opponent to 20 points or less in five of their last six games. While on the flip side, the Rams have also scored 28-plus points in four straight.

Believe it or not, LA has emerged as one of the “teams that nobody wants to play” down the stretch. While contrarily, the most impressive win on the Saints’ resume came against Indianapolis back in Week 8, with six of their seven wins coming against teams below .500. I’m laying the points with the Rams on Thursday night.

New Orleans Saints Betting Analysis

New Orleans owns a record of 7-7 entering this week as the Saints still control their own destiny regarding playoff contention currently tied with Tampa Bay atop the NFC South standings – and they still have another date set with the Bucs in Week 17, which could potentially determine the No. 4 seed in the NFC.

However, even if they don’t win the division, there’s still a chance that the Saints could sneak into the playoffs via wild card, considering they also find themselves in a four-way tie for the final two NFC wild card spots with the Vikings, Rams, Seahawks, and Saints all deadlocked at 7-7 with three games left to play. A lot could happen in the next three weeks.

Los Angeles Rams Betting Analysis

According to VegasInsider’s Patrick Everson, the spread for this contest originally opened at Rams -3.5 on Sunday night, and then quickly moved to Rams -4  with LA seemingly playing its best ball of the season right now – and not to mention, New Orleans also owns a lackluster record of 3-4 on the road so far this season.
