Joe Burrow odds-on favorite to go No. 1

The NFL Draft remains scheduled to be held April 23-25 from Las Vegas. Joe Burrow comes off a brilliant Heisman Trophy-winning run in leading LSU to an unbeaten season capped by a 42-25 win in the National Championship and is the presumptive No. 1 overall pick.

The Athens (OH) High School product is expected to go first to the Bengals in a move considered such a lock that there’s simply no value in riding the development that it would cost you a $99,000 to win $4,500.

The numbers make Burrow far too “chalky” a choice to realistically back, which means most will likely sit on the sidelines betting-wise. Burrow throwing an orange and black cap and holding up a Cincinnati jersey after hearing Roger Goodell call his name first seems like a lock.

The only way to bet the No. 1 pick is to ride an upset, which means backing the more likely of two unlikely scenarios. Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa has rebounded from a dislocated hip enough to potentially ascend back to No. 1, which is where everyone assumed he’d be taken when last college football season began. Burrow has warmed up to joining the Bengals. Consider that Burrow going No. 1 was -2200 ($2200 to win $100) on March 14, the current line (-7000) illustrates how unlikely it has become that we'll see a deviation.

Ohio State’s Chase Young, the consensus top defensive prospect in this draft, is likely to help Ron Rivera create a new culture in D.C. He broke OSU’s single-season record with 16.5 sacks en route to winning multiple awards in becoming 2019’s most decorated defender. Washington already has a young quarterback on board to groom in Dwayne Haskins.

It’s probably no longer worth laying the juice here but I do hope some of you got in on my recommendation that you get in on Young last month at a rate of -230 ($230 to win $100). The perception now is that the 'Skins won't trade down, so the number is astronomical. I simply don’t see anyone being selected second ahead of Young unless the ‘Skins trade out of the No. 2 spot due to a king's ransom.
