Chicago Bears vs. Seattle Seahawks Predictions

The Chicago Bears have been eliminated from any playoff hopes they may have had, and are looking to avoid a four-game losing streak. With head coach Matt Nagy more than likely out after this year it should be interesting to see how he handles the last three games.

The Seahawks are not mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, but would need many things to happen in addition to winning their last three games. Seattle is coming off a 20-10 loss to the Rams but have won two of their last three games. The Seahawks just have not been themselves this year. After starting 2-2, followed by QB Russell Wilson being out for three weeks, Seattle was just not able to find its groove.

Despite Seattle’s struggle on the season and working on a short week, I like them to win + cover against the Bears. More than likely Wilson or head coach Pete Carrol (or both) will be gone after this year, and I think they end their legacy on a positive note, winning at least two of the final three games. On top of that and more importantly, the Bears struggle to score the football. This will be no different playing in Seattle with a rookie QB.

Chicago Bears Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 4-10
  • ATS: 4-10
  • O/U: 5-9
  • ATS - Away: 2-5

If you’ve ever heard the saying, “Good teams win but great teams cover”, well then you know that the Chicago Bears are neither good nor great. Chicago is 4-10 ATS on the season, 0-5 ATS in their last five games, and 2-4 ATS in the last six games played against Seattle. The total has gone over just five times for the Bears this season, but has gone over in eight of the last 10 matchups against the Seahawks.

Chicago’s offense ranks near the bottom of the league in all major categories but rushing yards. Entering week 16 the Bears have averaged 307.4 total YPG (29th), 182.1 passing YPG (32nd), 125.2 rushing YPG (8th), and 17.1 PPG (29th). Justin Fields and the passing game has been almost non-existent on the year. The Bears will need to focus on running the football against a Seattle defense allowing 116.5 rushing YPG (21 st ).

The Bears defense ranks better than the offense. Coming into this matchup they are allowing 326.2 YPG (9th), 205.4 passing YPG (4th), 120.9 rushing YPG (23rd), and 24.9 PPG (24th). While Chicago has created just 12 turnovers on the year (6 INT, 6 FUM), they are third best in the league when it comes to sacks per game (2.9). Look for the Bears to pressure Wilson and not allow him time to throw the football.

Seattle Seahawks Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 5-9
  • ATS: 7-7
  • O/U: 3-10-1
  • ATS - Home: 3-3

Even with a below .500 record on the season the Seahawks have found ways to cover in half of the games played with a 7-7 ATS record. While just 2-4 ATS in their last six, Seattle is 4-2 ATS in the last six against Chicago. The total has gone over just three times on the year for the Seahawks but has gone over in eight of the last 10 matchups against the Bears.

Seattle’s offense has been quite the disappointment compared to years past. On the season they are averaging 303.4 total YPG (30th), 200.7 passing YPG (27th), 102.6 rushing YPG (23rd), and 20.1 PPG (24th). WR DK Metcalf is listed as questionable with a foot injury. Good news for the Seahawks offense came in on Thursday as WR Tyler Lockett has been activated off the COVID list. If they can get Metcalf back they should be in decent shape headed into Sunday.

The Seahawks defense has also been a huge let-down on the season. Allowing 390.4 total YPG (32nd), 273.9 passing YPG (32nd), 116.5 rushing YPG (21st), and 20.1 PPG (4th). The key to this one is the Seahawks redzone defense. Coming into this game they rank fifth in the league in redzone touchdowns allowed at 49% while the Bears rank 29th at scoring touchdowns in the redzone at 48%. If Seattle can hold the Bears in the redzone to just field goals they should set themselves up for success.

Chicago Bears vs. Seattle Seahawks Betting Conclusion

After the Bears failed to reach the endzone last week against the Vikings, I think it will be a similar result in Seattle. The Seahawks are by no means the team they once were but I think they have enough gas in the tank to get the W plus cover against the Bears.

The total is set at 43.5. With a combined O/U record of 8-19-1, I like the under in this one. While past meetings between these teams favor the over, that just is not the way this season is going for either team. While the defenses combined are allowing 45 PPG, the offenses combined are scoring just 37.1 PPG. I think defense will be the theme in this one. Rolling with the Seahawks –6.5/under 43.5.
