GREEN BAY PACKERS vs. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS BETTING PREDICTION

Aaron Rodgers and the Packers’ offense sorely missed Davante Adams in their season-opener against Minnesota, as Green Bay scored just seven points on 338 total yards and turned the ball over twice in an ugly 23-7 loss to the Vikings in Week 1. However, Green Bay quickly returned to form in Week 2, as the Packers cruised to a 17-point home victory in their Sunday Night Football matchup against the Bears, with Rodgers and co. racking up 27 points on 414 total yards in last week’s contest.

The Buccaneers, on the other hand, are off to one of the ugliest 2-0 starts in recent memory, as Tampa Bay averaged just 19.5 PPG on 304 YPG across a pair of victories over Dallas and New Orleans to open the season. However, their defense surrendered 10 PTS or less in both contests (6.5 PPG, 276 YPG), which is almost always enough to earn a victory with Tom Brady on the other side of the ball.

I’ll take the over here, as both of these offenses posted relatively underwhelming starts to the year, with Green Bay currently averaging 17 PPG and Tampa Bay averaging 19.5 PPG through Week 2. However, the Packers and Bucs both averaged 25+ PPG last season, and I expect the scoring to heat up in Sunday’s matchup between these teams, despite both squads dealing with a significant lack of weaponry in the pass-catching department.

Score Prediction: Packers 27, Buccaneers 20
Best Bet: Over 42 (-110)

GREEN BAY PACKERS BETTING ANALYSIS

Green Bay won the NFC North with a record of 13-4 last season, which barely beat out Tampa Bay for the top seed in the conference, who also finished with a record of 13-4. However, Aaron Rodgers’ second straight MVP campaign came to an abrupt halt in the Divisional Round, as the Packers went in cold after their first-round bye and fell to the Niners in a snowy slugfest at Lambeau Field (L, 13-10).

The Packers traded away their top wideout in Adams this past offseason, which has depleted their receiving core to the ranks of Allen Lazard, Christian Watson, and Sammy Watkins; and while last week’s 27-point, 414-yard showing against Chicago was an encouraging performance by Green Bay’s offense, I still want to see how they stack up against tougher defenses before I feel comfortable backing them on the road against NFC contenders like Tampa Bay.

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Buccaneers won the NFC South with a record of 13-4 last season, which finished right behind Green Bay for the top spot in the conference, marking Tampa Bay’s first division title since 2007 under head coach Jon Gruden and QB Jeff Garcia. However, both squads’ postseason journeys came to a screeching halt in the Divisional Round, as the Packers dropped a stunner to San Francisco (L, 13-10), and the Bucs fell in heartbreaking fashion to the Rams (L, 30-27).

The Bucs may have ultimately fell short in the playoffs, but make no mistake, this was still one of the best squads in the league last season, and they deservedly boast the third-best title odds after finishing top seven in scoring on both sides of the ball last year and came just three points shy of knocking off the Super Bowl Champs in the Divisional Round.
