NFL Total Picks and Plays For NFL Week 14

Global warming is an environmental and political sticking point. No matter what side you’re on in the debate if you’re a sports bettor weather is an important aspect of wagering. Looking at the meteorological predictions for Week 14 of the NFL season shows forecasts above freezing for every game.

Wind and precipitation are always an important aspect when looking to isolate some total plays but when the temperature is in single digits, it’s a lot harder to handle that pigskin. That being said, let’s look to cash tickets without worrying about the point spread and focus on the over-under or what's also referred to as totals!

Week 14 Best Total Plays

• Under 41 Jacksonville Jaguars-Tennessee Titans
• Over 53.5 Minnesota Vikings-Detroit Lions
• Tampa Bay Buccaneers Team Total Under 16.5

Winning an under play usually requires one of a few scenarios to play out. If both teams are bad it could happen. When one team just can’t score the odds go up that it’ll stay under the number and there’s always that great game between two awesome defenses possibility, what you might call old school football. This game looks like it’s a hybrid version of those situations and the Jaguars have scored 17 or less in four of their last six and are 1-9 ATS in their last 10 road games.

Tennessee heads into this one coming off a beatdown by the Eagles where they only amassed 209 yards of offense. Depending on when you placed your wager on that one it could have been the ninth straight Titan game that stayed under the total. Part of that is because the home team here is 11th in points allowed but 26th in the league in scoring and in their last seven they’ve scored 17 or less in five of them.

When you look at the results for the Vikings this season, that Dallas game jumps off the page. How did this team, the same one that scored at least 24 points a week in six of the previous seven before that matchup, and put up 60 in the two since, score only three points? Now, that 40 the Boys put up on them shouldn’t have shocked anyone as Minnesota has allowed almost 27 a game in their last six.

Speaking of points allowed, the Lions lead the NFL in that statistic giving up an averaging of 27 a game. Maybe one of the reasons they enter this week at a decent 5-7 is that they’re also scoring about the same amount which is seventh in the league. That total goes up when they’re in Ford Field and although they’re just 3-4 at home, they’ve averaged almost 32 points a game in those seven contests. We cashed with them here last week on their team total over when they scored 40 on the Jaguars.

Tampa Bay cashed another under ticket on Monday Night Football. That makes you 10-2 for the game and 11-1 for the first half if you’ve been betting that they would stay under the number this season. Having the fifth best defense in the league can allow you to remain in first place in your division even when you’re only scoring 18 points a game. Actually, in four of their last six games they’ve been unable to top 17.

Injuries are an important aspect of handicapping, even more so when the quarterback position is involved. The 49ers are on QB #3 after #1 Trey Lance broke his ankle and #2 Jimmy G his foot.

How will Brock Purdy handle his first NFL start? He has the league’s top defense behind him and a top-ten offense that is fifth in the league converting over 45% of their third-down opportunities. That should be enough to keep the guy across the sidelines, the one that’s old enough to be the 49ewrs QB’s dad, sitting there for a good chunk of the game.
