New York Jets vs. Buffalo Bills Picks, Predictions, Odds

Week 14 of the NFL season will resume on Sunday afternoon with a heavyweight AFC East clash between the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills. Coverage begins from Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park at 1:00 p.m. ET on CBS.

The Jets managed to escape with a 20-17 home victory after falling behind by a score of 14-3 early in the first meeting between these teams back in Week 9.

However, it didn’t really feel like the Jets won that contest, rather, it felt more like the Bills lost it, as Josh Allen completed just 18-of-34 pass attempts for 205 yards to go along with a pair of interceptions in their first matchup, easily marking his worst performance of the season thus far. And it was still almost enough to beat New York.

The Bills recently announced that Von Miller will miss the rest of the season with an ACL injury, which is a crushing blow to their defense. But even without Miller, this is still one of the most stacked rosters in football.

The Bills’ offense just needs to stop turning the ball over, considering Buffalo currently ranks 30th in the league in giveaways with 20 turnovers through 12 contests, which often makes it incredibly difficult for their defense to pull its weight on the opposite side of the script.

The Jets caught a few lucky breaks out of the gate this season, as Robert Saleh’s squad jumped out to an impressive 5-2 start, with two of those victories coming by slim margins of four points or less in matchups against the Browns and Steelers.

However, New York’s magic has slowly fizzled out over the last few weeks, as the Jets now enter Sunday following losses in three of their last five games, while generating just 18.6 PPG on the offensive side of the ball during their latest stretch.

The first matchup between these teams stayed under the number with a final score of 20-17. However, I expect to see more scoring the second time around between a Bills squad that’s scored 24+ PTS in nine of their 12 games so far this season, and a Jets squad that’s averaged 26.5 PPG in their two contests since handing over the reigns to Mike White.

Score Prediction: Bills 27, Jets 20
Best Bet: Over 43 (-110)

The Jets showed flashes of brilliance throughout Wilson’s rookie campaign last year, as New York pulled off tough upset victories over the Titans and Bengals early in the season.

But they desperately lacked consistency on the offensive side of the ball, as their offense fell short of 20 PTS in nine games last year (18.2 PPG), which is a recipe for disaster when combined with a defense ranked dead last in both scoring and total yardage (29.6 PPG, 398 YPG).

However, their defense has improved by leaps and bounds this year, as the Jets currently rank Top 6 in the league in both scoring and total yardage on the defensive side of the script (21 PPG, 307 YPG).

But there’s nothing more frustrating than when a team plays great defense, but struggles to score points. So, that’s probably why Robert Saleh has shown very little tolerance for underwhelming quarterback play recently.

The Bills are the most dangerous team in the league when everything’s clicking on both sides of the ball, but unfotunately, they continue to shoot themselves in the foot in the turnover department from time-to-time, which naturally lingers in the minds of bettors as a ticking timebomb.

However, they’ve cleaned things up turnover-wise recently, and the results have been golden, highlighted by the Bills turning the ball over just twice during their latest three-game win streak, while scoring 27.7 PPG and allowing 19.3 PPG in those contests. And if they're able to replicate that moving forward, the sky is the limit for this squad.
