However, both have stood up to the test in Europe and navigated the continent's choppy waters. Nonetheless, both teams' domestic struggles—18 defeats for the Red Devils and 21 for Tottenham—make the outcome of this first European final of the season extremely unpredictable..

Despite a challenging start to their European journey, which featured three consecutive draws, Ruben Amorim’s side remains unbeaten across all three major European competitions. In the knockout rounds, United dispatched Spanish opponents Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao with ease, but came perilously close to an exit in the quarter-finals against Olympique Lyon.

On the other hand, Ange Postecoglou’s side benefited from a seemingly smoother path to the final, showcasing resilience with two away victories, earning clean sheets against Eintracht Frankfurt and Bodø/Glimt.

This marks the sixth all-English final in European competitions. Spurs have triumphed once (against Wolves in 1972) and suffered defeat against Liverpool in 2019. Meanwhile, Manchester United claimed the Champions League trophy with a penalty shootout victory over Chelsea in 2008.

Tottenham Analysis and Form

Only one team in the Premier League has served up worse form over the most recent ten matches than Tottenham. Southampton (3) unwantedly trumps Spurs’ five points returned in ten games, whilst Manchester United (6) ranks 17th in the 10-game Premier League form table.

Man United Analysis and Form

Manchester United are currently without a win in eight Premier League matches. Only four clubs have scored fewer than United in 2024/25, and just four teams - the relegated trio and Tottenham Hotspur - have returned fewer points after 37 fixtures. The Old Trafford outfit languishes just two places above the relegation zone with one game remaining.

It has been a wretched season domestically by Manchester United's high standards. Ruben Amorim's appointment at the start of November hasn't helped the slide, but it has guided the club to a European final against fellow Premier League strugglers, Spurs. 

Ahead of Manchester United's 1-0 defeat against Chelsea, Amorim claimed he was "embarrassed" by his team's performances in England. He also commented that there was "something wrong" with how his side plays football in the Premier League. United ranks 17th out of 20 teams in the ten-game form table with a solitary victory.

However, United's fortunes have been kinder in Europe, similar to Tottenham's. The Red Devils are the only unbeaten club in Europe's continental competitions. The two impressive victories against Athletic Club in the semi-final showcased the difference in performance levels between the Premier League and the Europa League. United vacated the field at half-time in the first leg in Spain, leading by three goals (0-3).

If United harnesses their European form on Wednesday night, 2024/25 won't be the disaster it might have been. Arrive with any hallmarks of their Premier League campaign, and Ruben Amorim's side is in trouble.

Head to Head

Tottenham are undefeated in the past six games, in all competitions, against Manchester United, which is their longest unbeaten streak since 1993. This season Spurs have already won three times against the Red Devils, twice in the league with an aggregate score of 4-0 and 4-3 in the League Cup back in December 2024. 

Therefore, Ange Postecoglou holds an almost perfect record against United (three wins, two draws), as his side scored less than two goals in just one match. The last Manchester United victory came in October 2022, thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Fred. 

However, the head-to-head record in the past five seasons, since 2019, is equally split with each side obtaining five victories apiece, and in the same period, nine games have ended with at least three goals. 

This is not the first European meeting for these two clubs. Manchester United knocked Tottenham out of the 1963/64 Fairs Cup with an aggregate score of 4-3. 

Since 1993, there have been five knockout ties, with United winning three of them, between the FA Cup and League Cup, one 0-0 draw in 2009, and a Spurs success this season thanks to Dominik Solanke’s brace and goals from Son and Kulusevski.

Manchester United's central defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro are both doubtful. De Ligt has been sidelined for the past three matches after sustaining an injury against Brentford at the beginning of May. Yoro had to abandon the pitch prematurely during United’s defeat to West Ham two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, the fitness of Diogo Dalot, who’s been absent for the past six weeks, remains uncertain. However, Toby Collyer is also back in contention, having rejoined United's matchday squad for the Chelsea game.

The Red Devils will certainly be without long-term absentees Joshua Zirkzee and Lisandro Martinez.

Ange Postecoglou chose to rest many key players against Aston Villa last Friday. Captain Heung-Min Son was the exception and played 74 minutes as part of his recovery from a foot injury. 

James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Lucas Bergvall have all been ruled out. Pape Sarr was subbed early in the last league match, but the manager has downplayed any injury concerns
