America’s Favorite Game Consoles

Gaming has been a part of households across the world since 1972 when the Magnavox Odyssey was introduced as the first console of its kind.

Although there have been technological advancements throughout the years, including the release of the Nintendo Switch 2, which arrives in June.

To celebrate this next milestone in gaming, the team here at Vegas Insider analyzed all 50 states across America to see which gaming console was the most popular.

Using Google Keyword Planner and searching each console over the past 12 months, it can be revealed that the PlayStation 5 was the most popular gaming console in the country.

With almost 3 million in average total search volumes across the past year, the ‘PS5’ was by far the most popular console of choice for gamers in the US.

As already mentioned, the PlayStation 5 tops the ranking by a comfortable margin from the rest of the competition. The latest generation of the iconic gaming console, the PS5 offers an immersive gaming experience and a huge library of games, including the backwards compatibility feature which allows gamers to play their favorite games from past console generations.

  1. Xbox Series X (1,925,700 average monthly searches)

Ranking second in the study, the Xbox Series X is also the latest production of gaming consoles from Microsoft. Having exclusive rights to the titan franchise Halo, Xbox has always been a favorite for gamers which is no surprise to see its popularity ranking so highly in the study.

  1. Nintendo Switch (1,839,500 average monthly searches)

Soon to be replaced by the next instalment of the Nintendo Switch series, the original Nintendo Switch was the first handheld console of its kind for both casual and serious gamers. With the ability to play on the go or connect the console to a tv, there’s plenty of different genres of games to choose from which makes it so popular amongst gamers.

  1. Steam Deck (633,080 average monthly searches)

Another handheld console being the first of its kind, the Steam Deck provides the PC gaming experience on the go with a full access to the Steam library of games and even non-Steam games and apps. It’s the perfect fit for those wanting the PC gaming feel without needing the use of a full set up.

  1. PlayStation 4 (447,470 average monthly searches)

With its launch back in 2013, the PlayStation 4 sold over 17 million units and became one of the best-selling consoles at the time. Although it’s been succeeded by the PlayStation 5, the PS4 is still popular amongst gamers and households looking for a more affordable console.

Nevada’s Favorite Console

When it came to Nevada specifically, they followed the trend with the PlayStation 5 ranking as the most popular gaming console in the state. 

With an average monthly search volume of 32,000 for the latest console in the PlayStation series, the PS5 was bar far the most sought after across the state of Nevada.

The first Nintendo Switch was ranked second in Nevada with the Xbox Series X in a close third.

However, at the other end of the scale from the options within the study, PlayStation VR ranked lowest in Nevada for gaming preferences, which followed the overall trend across the US.

Methodology

Using Google Keyword Planner, each gaming console in the study was analyzed based on average monthly search volume to determine the popularity in each state and in America as a whole.
