West Virginia is back home after a long break, as the -2-point favorite against Texas Tech. The Red Raiders aren't known for covering this season, going 6-9 on the ATS. West Virginia is evenly split at 7-7 on the ATS.

The point total is set at 134.5, something both schools are nearly split on as well. The teams are a combined 15-14 on the O/U this season.

Betting Analysis – Texas Tech Red Raiders

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 11-4
  • ATS: 6-9
  • SU - Home: 8-3
  • SU - Away: 3-1
  • O/U: 7-8

Texas Tech has three players that get all the recognition. Those players include Mac McClung, Kyler Edwards and Terrence Shannon who each average a double-digit point total.

It's easy to forget that Marcus Santos-Silva averages nearly 10 points per game and a team high 6.3 rebounds as well. Perhaps the biggest difference for this team that no one is talking about is the return of Kevin McCullar.

Since returning from an injury, McCullar has scored 10 or more points in four of his last six games. He gets to the free throw line and also rebounds well (two double-doubles since returning). He also plays into the Red Raiders' 10th-best defense in the nation, seeing two steals a game in four of his last five games.

Betting Analysis – West Virginia Mountaineers

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 10-4
  • ATS: 7-7
  • SU - Home: 7-1
  • SU - Away: 3-3
  • O/U: 8-6

It'll be interesting the see how Bob Huggins' team fairs after just one game since Jan. 9, against Kansas State. The Mountaineers looked good in their return, but Kansas State is hardly a measuring stick.

Playing at home has boded well for West Virginia, typically struggling more on the road. Derek Culver seems to play better in Morgantown, leading the team in rebounds and averaging a double-double. Miles McBride is the other lethal Mountaineer, leading the team with 15.3 points per game and 4.1 assists.

These two are the catalysts for West Virginia's offense, while Taz Shrerman and Sean McNeil fill in the gaps. Of all the players mentioned, Culver is the stand out. Culver averages over 10 rebounds per game and is a big reason why West Virginia averages the sixth-most offensive rebounds per game nationally.

Both he and Oscar Tshiebwe average over three a game, but Tshiebwe is out for the season and so the burden falls solely on Culver. If he can give West Virginia enough second-chance opportunities then West Virginia can control the pace, which Texas Tech will want to do with their defense.

Texas Tech-West Virginia Predictions

This should be a very close game, and may even creep into overtime. It's easy to see an offense struggling here, but with West Virginia at home and the return of McCullar it seems the OVER might be the play.

The thought is that one team will cross 65 points, while the other should keep a five-three point pace behind. This is risky with the given line, but go with West Virginia possibly touching 70 and Texas Tech in closer territory. With West Virginia playing at home, its unlikely Texas Tech controls the game's pace - which would favor the UNDER.

A two-point spread is very difficult to consider. However, it's a low enough line to consider a SU pick instead. Although West Virginia should cover a small spread at home, the SU is safer (for obvious reasons) and presents an inexpensive safety net.

  • Score Prediction: West Virginia 73 Texas Tech 69
  • Best Bets: OVER
  • Best Bets: West Virginia SU
