The Cavaliers get the nod as -4.5-point road favorites in this ACC showdown between nationally ranked teams. The total line for the game opened at 125.5 points.

Virginia has been on a roll lately with a straight-up seven-game ACC winning streak while going 5-2 against the spread. The total has gone OVER in five of the last six contests.

The Cavaliers also have a four-game winning streak against Virginia Tech both SU and ATS. They're 7-3 (SU and ATS) in the last 10 meetings.

Virginia Tech is 4-1 SU in its last five games following Wednesday’s 11-point road win against Notre Dame as a one-point favorite. It is 6-2 SU (5-3 ATS) in conference play this season. The total has stayed UNDER in its last four outings.

The Hokies have won nine of their last 10 home games SU while going 5-1 ATS in the last six. The total has gone OVER or ended as a PUSH in five of those previous six games at home.

Monday’s 81-58 rout over Syracuse as -7.5-point home favorites was the third time the Cavaliers crossed the 80-point mark in their last four games.

Senior forward Sam Hauser connected on seven of his 13 three-point attempts for 21 points in Monday’s win. He leads the team in scoring on the year with 15 points per game while pulling down 7.4 rebounds. Forward Jay Huff is second in both categories with 13.8 points and 6.3 rebounds.

Virginia Tech will not have its second-leading scorer Tyrece Radford (11.1 points) in the lineup on Saturday. The sophomore guard has been indefinitely suspended from the team.

This will dial-up the pressure on the other three players scoring in double figures. Forward Keve Aluma tops that list with 13.9 PPG. Guards’ Nahiem Alleyne (10.8 points) and Jalen Cone (10.3 points) round out this scoring trio.

Radford was also the team’s top shooter from the field (53.7%) as part of the Hokies’ 44.5-point shooting percentage. This number drops to 33.8% from three-point range.

Virginia Tech is averaging 72.5 points and 36.3 rebounds a game. It is holding opposing teams to 64.7 PPG at the other end of the court. The defense has not allowed more than 67 points over the last four victories.

Virginia-Virginia Tech Predictions

Virginia comes into Saturday’s matchup hot but the Hokies are a tough team to beat on their own home court. Head-to-head, the Cavaliers get the edge given the recent betting trends in this classic in-state rivalry.

I'm also giving the slight edge to Virginia as the better all-around team. It has found its form during the current undefeated run through conference play to the point where I'm taking the Cavaliers minus the four points.

I'm also taking the OVER on the current total line. Virginia’s success in recent years has always been tied to a shutdown defense. Yet, I'm looking for both team’s top shooters to score enough points on Saturday to top the total line.

  • Score Prediction: Virginia 71 Virginia Tech 65
  • Best Bets: Virginia -4.5
  • Best Bets: OVER
