Purdue improved to 7-4 straight-up in Big Ten play with Saturday’s 19-point romp over Minnesota as a -2.5-point home favorite. It is now 5-1 both SU and against the spread in its last six games. The total has gone OVER in three of the last five outings.

The Boilermakers won the first meeting this season at home by three points as six-point favorites. They are 6-2 SU in their last six games against Maryland but 0-5 ATS in the last five matchups.

The Terrapins have dropped two of three games (SU and ATS) with a six-point home loss to Wisconsin as +3.5-point underdogs last Wednesday. They are 3-7 SU in conference play while going 4-6 ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in four of their last six games.

The Boilermakers are getting hot at the right time of the year. They overcame a 14-point deficit in the recent win against Minnesota. Guard Brandon Newman went off with season-high 29 points while forward Trevion Williams added 17 points and 14 rebounds.

Williams leads the way in both points (15.4) and rebounds (9.8) while converting on 51.1% of his shots from the field. One injury note, junior guard Sasha Stefanovic (11.1 points) remains out of the lineup due to health protocols.

Purdue, as a whole, is averaging 70.9 points per game and shooting 44.6% from the field. This drops down to 35.2% from three-point range.

Purdue has been solid under the boards with 38 rebounds a game. It is holding opposing teams to an average of 66.6 PPG.

Maryland put up a valiant effort against Wisconsin its last time out to lose by six points after trailing by 18 points at the half. Its biggest wins of the year have come on the road, including an earlier upset over the Badgers.

To get past Purdue at home, guards’ Eric Ayala (13.7 points) and Aaron Wiggins (12.5 points) along with forward Donta Scott (13.0 point) will need to be at their best. Scott leads the team in rebounds (6.9) and Wiggins is dishing out 2.9 assists a game.

The Terrapins are putting up an average of 71.4 PPG while converting on 46.2% of their shots from the field. They are shooting 35.8% from three-point range. Maryland is averaging 34.2 rebounds a game and giving up an average of 67.1 PPG.

Purdue-Maryland Predictions

The first meeting stayed competitive until the final buzzer with a big second-half rally by Maryland. I see this rematch staying fairly close with the edge going to Purdue as the better all-around team.

The Boilermakers also add value to the spread given their current playing form. As mentioned, the Terrapins’ best efforts this season have been on the road, so I'm taking Purdue SU.

The total went OVER 135 points in the first meeting, but I'm going the other way this time around. Scoring has been lower than expected in the past several meetings in Maryland and I see that trend staying true on Tuesday night.
