Tennessee-LSU Betting Odds

  • Spread: Tennessee -2
  • Money-Line: TBD
  • Total: 145.5

Odds Subject to Change

The opening spread for this SEC matchup has Tennessee set as a slight -2-point road favorite. The total line opened at 145.5 points.

The Volunteers improved to 4-1 straight-up in their last five contests with Wednesday’s seven-point victory at home against Georgia. They dropped to 2-5 against the spread over their last seven games as 13-point favorites in that win.

The total has gone OVER in four of the last six games. Tennessee has gone 1-4 both SU and ATS in its last five games against the Tigers with three losses on the road.

The total went OVER the closing line in all five matchups. The Tigers’ 14-point road upset over Mississippi State on Wednesday was just their second win in their last six outings both SU and ATS. The total has gone OVER in six of their last eight games.

LSU has dropped its last two home games SU after winning 10 in a row dating back to last season. It has failed to cover in six of its last eight home games with the total going OVER in six of those contests.

Betting Analysis – Tennessee Volunteers

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 14-4
  • ATS: 10-8
  • SU - Home: 11-2
  • SU - Away: 3-2
  • O/U: 8-10

Tennessee is still in the hunt for the SEC regular season title at 7-4 but it would probably need to win out and get some help to catch 11-1 Alabama.

The Volunteers took a step in the right direction behind Jaden Springer’s career-high 30 points in Wednesday’s 89-81 win over Georgia. The freshman guard scored 23 points in last Saturday’s win at Kentucky. He is shooting 52.4% from the field and 54.2 percent from three-point range.

Tennessee has five players averaging at least nine points per game as part of a team scoring average of 73.3 points. It is shooting 45.2% from the field dropping down to 34.5% outside the three-point line.

The Volunteers are pulling down an average of 35.8 rebounds a game and they are allowing an average of just 60.8 PPG.

Betting Analysis – LSU Tigers

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 12-6
  • ATS: 7-11
  • SU - Home: 9-2
  • SU - Away: 3-4
  • O/U: 11-6-1

LSU has a matching 7-4 SU record in conference play. Guards’ Cameron Thomas (25 points) and Javonte Smart (22 points) played a huge role in getting that seventh win against Mississippi State on Wednesday.

Thomas leads the Tigers in scoring this season with 22.4 PPG while Smart (15.8 points) leads the team in assists (4.2). Forward Trendon Watford is second on the list in points with 16.6 a game and Darius Days (12.4 points) is the team leader in rebounds (8.1).

All this offensive firepower adds up to an 82.2-point scoring average. LSU is shooting 46.9% from the field and 34.4% from three-point range.

Defensively, the Tigers are allowing an average of 74.6 PPG. They have given up 76 points or more in each of their last three outings.

Tennessee-LSU Predictions

The Tigers get the edge in recent betting trends against Tennessee, but I'm giving the Volunteers the slight edge in this particular matchup. LSU has been struggling a bit lately even with its ability to put quite a few points on the board.

Playing at home is a plus but that current two-game losing streak could easily reach three in a row. Take Tennessee SU and ATS. You could parlay that play with the OVER on the total line as the strongest bet in this contest. Both team’s top scorers should have a big day.
