Tuesday's MAC Best Bets

Akron (0-2 SU, 1-1 ATS) at Kent State (2-0 SU, 1-1 ATS)

  • Odds: Kent State -27, O/U 58.5
  • TV-Time: ESPN, 8:00 p.m.
  • Venue: Dix Stadium
  • Location: Kent, Ohio

The Zips head 15 miles down Interstate 76 and up Ohio SR 43 to Dix Stadium to battle for the Wagon Wheel in this rivalry game.

Akron is coming off a 24-10 loss at Ohio, as they continue to search for its first victory since Oct. 27, 2018, a span of 19 straight losses. However, there was a small glimmer of hope, or ray of sunshine last week, as they covered the spread against Ohio. They were just 1-11 ATS last season, so they have already equaled that number.

Kent State hung a 60-burger on Bowling Green last week, winning 62-24 at Doyt Perry Stadium. The Flashes scored at least seven points in every quarter, and they held a 38-10 lead at halftime, coasting to the 20.5-point cover while taking care of the 'over' (55) on their own. The Golden Flashes have tossed up 549.0 total yards per game, and 44.5 PPG, through two outings. Dual-threat QB Dustin Crum is on a roll, posting 490 passing yards, six touchdowns and just one interception while also running for 60 yards and a score.

Kent State blew out Akron 26-3 on Oct. 12, 2019 last season, failing to cover a 14.5-point number as the 'under' (57.5) comfortably cashed at InfoCision Stadium in Akron.

The last time this game was played at Dix in Kent, the Zips came away with a thrilling 24-23 overtime victory, again as the 'under' (50) cashed. The under has hit in three in a row in this series, and eight of the past 10.

Akron is 0-4 ATS in the past four meetings in this series, and 2-5 ATS in their past seven trips to Kent. The underdog is 10-4 ATS across the past 14 meetings, however. Akron leads the overall series 35-25-2.

Best Bet: Akron +27

Buffalo (2-0 SU, 2-0 ATS) at Bowling Green (0-2 SU, 0-2 ATS)

  • Odds: Buffalo -31.5, O/U 58.5
  • TV-Time: CBSSN, 7:00 p.m.
  • Venue: Doyt L. Perry Stadium
  • Location: Bowling Green, Ohio

Buffalo thumped Miami-Ohio by a 42-10 score, easily cashing as seven-point favorites as the 'under' (56) connected. Buffalo has rolled up 91 points through two games while yielding just 40, covering each of their games to date.

Bulls QB Kyle Vantrease has done well enough, completing 64.4 percent of his pass attempts for 531 yards, five touchdowns and just one interception while running for another score. RB Jaret Patterson leads the team with 210 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 5.3 yards per tote.

The defense has also been opportunistic, registering three touchdowns on turnovers in the opener at Northern Illinois. They are allowing just 180.0 passing yards per game, and 20.0 PPG to rank 20th in the nation.

For Bowling Green, they haven't been as fortunate. They're coming off a 62-24 beatdown at the hands of Kent State last week, and they were thrashed 38-3 in the opener at Toledo on Nov. 4, going 0-2 SU/ATS. Bowling Green is averaging just 13.5 PPG, including only 316.0 total yards and 116.5 passing yards per game. Defensively the Falcons have allowed 595.5 total yards, 293.0 passing yards and 302.5 rushing yards per outing while yielding 50.0 PPG, 126th in the nation.

Falcons QB Matt McDonald has completed just 28.0 percent of his passes, going 14-of-50 for 233 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. Yes, 28 percent. That's not a typo. The cupboard isn't completely bare, as RB Terion Stewart has run for 162 yards and two touchdowns to give them at least one effective player on offense.

The Bulls have covered five in a row dating back to last season, and they're 6-0 ATS in their past six appearances on a Tuesday, for whatever that's worth. Buffalo is 4-1 ATS in the past five road games, and 9-3 ATS in the past 12 against losing teams, too.

For the Falcons, they have failed to cover in their past six tries against the Bulls, and they're 1-6 ATS in the past seven at home against Buffalo. The 'under' has cashed in each of the past four meetings at Doyt Perry, while going 6-2 in the previous eight meetings overall.

Best Bet: Under 58.5

Ohio (1-1 SU, 1-1 ATS) at Miami-Ohio (1-1 SU, 1-1 ATS)

  • Canceled due to COVID-19 concerns, game declared no contest
