Week 3 of the College Football Season will reach its height at the Swamp this Saturday afternoon, as the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide will visit the No. 11 Florida Gators for a Top 25 SEC showdown – and as always, CBS has you covered with all the action starting at 3:30 E.T.
After stomping Ohio State in last year’s National Championship game (52-24), it appears that Nick Saban and the Tide picked up right where they left off to start the new season – considering Alabama effortlessly rolled 14 th ranked Miami in Week 1 (44-13), and then took care of Mercer in a similar fashion the following week (48-14).
On the other hand, Florida has also been solid start to start the year despite a somewhat underwhelming strength of schedule – as the Gators comfortably handled Florida Atlantic and South Florida by an average of 21.5 points per victory across the first two weeks of this season. I’ll lay the points with the Tide here though, as Gators’ quarterback Emory Jones has thrown just two touchdowns to four interceptions across the first two weeks of the season – and that type of ratio won’t fly against top-notch defensive squads like Alabama.
Last year’s SEC Championship Game between Florida and Alabama was an offensive showdown for the ages, as quarterbacks Kyle Trask and Mac Jones traded touchdowns all the way through the final buzzer of the event – which ultimately resulted in a 52-46 victory for the Tide.
Both squads appear much different to start the new season though, considering Alabama has sophomore Bryce Young at the helm for Bill O’Brien’s offense – while Florida is currently in a slight starting QB debacle between Jones and Anthony Richardson.
Once Florida figures out its quarterback situation, the Gators should end up posing as a legitimate threat to compete for the SEC title – I think they just drew the Tide a little bit too early in this instance.
