Miami-Ohio RedHawks vs. Ohio Bobcats Predictions

Miami heads into this one tied atop the MAC’s East Division with Kent State, facing a legitimate shot at the league championship game. Ohio, they are no longer eligible for a bowl game, even if they were to win out. However, if you have followed these mid-week, Mid-American Conference games in the past, you know the team with nothing to play for relishes the role as spoiler, and often comes through to shake things up.

The Bobcats might have lost seven of eight games overall, and are no longer playing for a bowl game shot, but Ohio hasn’t quit. In fact, it might be playing its best football of the season. Ohio lost 34-27 to Kent State last time out, it suffered a 27-26 loss at Buffalo Oct. 16, and 30-27 against Central Michigan Oct. 9. That’s three losses by a total of 11 points against contending teams.

The Redhawks are coming off a 24-17 win on the road against Ball State last time out as the UNDER hit, and that’s been their calling card. The UNDER is 5-1 in the past six games overall for Miami.

Miami-Ohio RedHawks Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 4-4
  • ATS: 3-5
  • O/U: 3-5
  • ATS - Home: 1-2
  • ATS - Away: 2-3

The RedHawks have won two in a row, and three of four inside the conference. However, two of the past three have been decided by one score, both on the road. They fell 13-12 at Eastern Michigan on Oct. 9, and Miami has posted 24.5 PPG in four games inside the MAC.

Not only does Miami have a 4-4 record, which yells mediocrity, so does its overall statistics. They’re 75 th out of 130 FBS teams in total yards per game with 388.9, and 82nd with 149.4 rushing yards per game. Miami has posted 23.8 PPG to rank 98th in the nation.

On the defensive side of the ball, the RedHawks are a lot better. Miami has allowed 22.3 PPG to rank 44th in the country, while allowing just 350.1 yards per game to check in 47th. They’re also 47th overall in passing yards allowed with 210.9.

Ohio Bobcats Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 1-7
  • ATS: 3-5
  • O/U: 2-6
  • ATS - Home: 1-3
  • ATS - Away: 2-2

The Bobcats have been awful on offense, although they certainly can run the ball. Ohio has posted just 360.1 total yards per game to rank 94th, while managing just 166.8 passing yards per outing to rank 114th.

However, Ohio does put up 193.4 rushing yards per contest, and that will be the biggest threat to Miami, but they need to build an early lead to stick with a ground-based attack.

RB De’Montre Tuggle has scored a rushing touchdown in four consecutive outings, and he hung 201 yards on Akron in the team’s lone win.

Defensively, Ohio has allowed 426.8 total yards per game to rank 104th, while ranking 125th with 224.8 rushing yards per game allowed. The Bobcats have also coughed up 31.1 PPG to rank 103rd .

Miami-Ohio RedHawks vs. Ohio Bobcats Betting Conclusion

It makes absolutely no sense to play Ohio straight up. They’re awful, losing seven of eight games overall this season. But they’ve been knocking on the door in the past three outings, losing by a total of just 11 points, and eventually they’re going to kick the door in.

In 2019 we saw Miami in a similar spot. They went to Ball State on Nov. 29, single-digit spread against a team out of the bowl picture, and the RedHawks were dropped 41-27. Yes, they still ended up winning the East Division that season, but no one is guaranteed a win in the MAC. These mid-week games serve up a lot of surprises, and we’ll get one here.
