Buffalo Bulls vs. Miami-Ohio RedHawks Predictions

Buffalo was surprised by visiting Bowling Green last week in a game which featured exactly 100 points, including 49 points in a wild fourth quarter. The Bulls and Falcons exchanged haymakers all evening, with Buffalo trailing 28-23 heading to the final 15 minutes. Buffalo was outscored 28-21 in the fourth, losing outright as 13.5-point favorites at home.

Miami hit the road for Athens and it was surprised by Ohio by a 35-33 score, losing outright as a touchdown favorite as the OVER easily connected. The 35 points allowed by the Redhawks were the most since Cincinnati dropped 49 on Miami in the opener Sept. 4 in Oxford.

Neither of these teams have played very good defense lately, so this one could be quite an entertaining affair, especially for those who play the OVER. Buffalo has scored 44.5 PPG across the past two outings, and the Bulls have allowed 24 or more points in seven of the previous eight outings.

Buffalo Bulls Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 4-5
  • ATS: 3-5-1
  • O/U: 4-5
  • ATS - Home: 2-2-1
  • ATS - Away: 1-3

The Bulls have had a difficult time against the number this season. Buffalo is just 1-4-1 ATS across the past six games overall, although it did cover the most recent game on the road at Akron on Oct. 23. The Bulls registered an impressive 45-10 win as a 13.5-point favorite as the UNDER hit against the Zips. It was Buffalo’s first cover in four tries on the road this season, while the OVER/UNDER is 2-2 in four away games.

Buffalo has been a good running team, going for 205.4 rushing yards per contest, and the Bulls have hoisted up 33.7 PPG to rank 29th. Defensively, the Bulls have coughed up 412.7 total yards per game to rank 89th, while allowing 214.4 passing yards per game to check in 46th. Buffalo’s problems are against the run, yielding 198.2 rushing yards per game to rank 111th out of 130 teams in the FBS.

Buffalo is 6-1 ATS in its past seven appearances on a Tuesday, while going 11-5-1 ATS in the previous 17 as an underdog.

Miami-Ohio RedHawks Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 4-5
  • ATS: 3-6
  • O/U: 4-5
  • ATS - Home: 1-2
  • ATS - Away: 2-4

The Redhawks saw their modest two-game win streak snapped in Athens last week against a team which is not even eligible for a bowl, and which entered last week’s game with just one victory. But that’s what you get in this late-season mid-week MAC battles. You just never know.

Miami has posted a 2-2 SU while covering just once during the span, and the Redhawks have managed a 3-6 ATS mark overall. Total bettors have enjoyed Miami, too, with the UNDER going 5-2 across the past seven outings. It seems strange, but Miami has played just three games at home so far this season, going a perfect 3-0 SU, but with just one cover. The UNDER is 2-1 in those games, with an OVER in the most recent game at Yager against Akron, a 34-21 win Oct. 16.

The Redhawks have posted 408.9 total yards per game on offense, which is just so-so in terms of ranking in the FBS. However, they’re above average with 267.6 passing yards per game to check in 33rd, and that’s where Miami can do its most damage. Defensively, the Redhawks are 49th in total yards (357.1), 49th in passing yards (219.4) and 48th in rushing yards (137.7) allowed per game.

The Buffalo Bulls have failed to cover the spread in three of their last four road games. (AP)

Buffalo Bulls vs. Miami-Ohio RedHawks Betting Conclusion

The Bulls have posted a 1-4 ATS mark in the previous five trips to Oxford, but seven and a hook is a solid number for Buffalo. QB Kyle Vantrease has completed 61.8 percent of his passes with 1,712 yards, eight touchdowns and five picks while running for 112 yards and three scores. RB Dylan McDuffie is also the next great Buffalo back, following in the footsteps of RB Jaret Patterson. Vantrease and McDuffie will be difficult for the Miami defense to contain.

Fortunately for Miami, Buffalo’s defense is horrific. The Bulls allowed 221 rushing yards and 263 passing yards to lowly Bowling Green last week, so the Redhawks will be able to move the ball. Playing at home will help, too. Look for Miami to outlast Buffalo in a high-scoring affair, although expect another MACtion underdog cover.
