Los Angeles Angels vs. Philadelphia Phillies Betting Predictions

The Los Angeles Angels enter this matchup second in the AL West standings, six games behind the Astros for first place. The Angels have been struggling as of late and have lost seven straight games. The offense has averaged just 3.5 runs per game over that stretch, well below their season average of 4.64 runs per game. The bullpen has been just as bad, giving up seven runs per game compared to their season average of allowing opponents 3.85 runs per game. Right-handed pitcher Chase Silseth is scheduled to start Friday. Silseth is 1-1 in three games this season with an ERA 3.07 while giving up 13 hits, five earned runs, and struck out 10 batters in 14.2 innings.

Philadelphia is currently third in the NL East standings, 12.5 games behind the New York Mets for first place. The Phillies managed to snap a five-game losing streak on Wednesday after defeating the Giants, but have lost 10 of their last 15 games. The offense has been solid this season, averaging 4.5 runs per game. The bullpen has struggled all season and have given up five or more runs in seven of their last nine games. The right-hander Zach Eflin is expected to take the mound Friday. Eflin is 1-4 in eight games this season with an ERA of 4.60 and has given up 43 hits, 22 earned runs, and struck out 39 batters in 43.0 innings of work.

Both of these teams have been struggling as of late and will look to gain some momentum in this series. I like the Angels to take game-one. Silseth has been great in his first three MLB starts and should be able to give Los Angeles five to six quality innings. Eflin has been inconsistent this season and I expect the Angels offense to give him a tough time on the mound. Backing the Angles moneyline.

Los Angeles Angels Betting Analysis

Prior to the results of game-three against the Yankees on Thursday, the Angels are 27-24 SU, 25-26 ATS, and have an O/U record of 25-22-4. The total has gone over in four of the Angels last six games. Following this trend, the total has gone over in five of their last seven games on the road. Los Angeles is 0-5 SU in their last five road games and 12-10 SU on the road this season.

Los Angeles did not hit the ball well in their most recent series against the Yankees, but have been excellent throughout the season. As a team the Angels have a batting average of .247 (7th), on base percentage of .319 (8th), slugging percentage of .418 (2nd), and have scored .237 runs (6th). Center fielder Mike Trout has been productive with a batting average of .297 (49-165), 13 home runs, and 28 RBIs. The first baseman Jared Walsh is also hitting the ball well with a batting average of .250, 10 home runs, and 29 RBIs.

The Angels bullpen has really struggled as of late, giving up 49 runs over their last seven games. On the season they are allowing opponents a batting average of .227 (8th), have a WHIP of 1.18 (8th), and have an ERA of 3.81 (15th). Right-handed pitcher Chase Silseth is scheduled to start Friday. Silseth is 1-1 in three games this season with an ERA 3.07 while giving up 13 hits, five earned runs, and struck out 10 batters in 14.2 innings. Silseth has been impressive in his first three MLB starts and most recently went 4.1 innings against the Blue Jays and gave up six hits and two runs.

Philadelphia Phillies Betting Analysis

After snapping a five-game losing streak the Phillies are now 22-29 SU, 23-28 ATS, and have an O/U record of 28-21-2. The total has gone over in five of Philadelphia's last six games. The Phillies have gone 5-10 SU in their last 15 games and are 12-15 SU at home this season.

Despite their below .500 record, Philadelphia has been getting solid production from their offense this season. As a team the Phillies have a batting average of .245 (10th), on base percentage of .310 (17th), slugging percentage of .403 (10th), and have scored 230 runs (10th). The left fielder Nick Castellanos is having a nice season with a batting average of .256 (50-195), seven home runs, and 28 RBIs. Designated hitter Bryce Harper is listed as day-to-day (forearm), but is having a great season with a batting average of .303 (54-178), 10 home runs, and 32 RBIs.

The Phillies bullpen has been struggling for the majority of the season. As a team they are allowing opponents a batting average of .246 (20th), have a WHIP of 1.30 (21st), and have an ERA of 4.05 (18th). The right-hander Zach Eflin is expected to take the mound Friday. Eflin is 1-4 in eight games this season with an ERA of 4.60 and has given up 43 hits, 22 earned runs, and struck out 39 batters in 43.0 innings of work. In his most recent outing against the Mets on May 28th, Eflin struck out four batters in six innings while giving up eight hits and seven runs.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Philadelphia Phillies Betting Conclusion

I like the Angels in game-one of this series, despite how poorly they have been playing. The Phillies bullpen has been allowing too many runs and the Angels should see plenty of success with their powerful lineup. Los Angeles has not been pitching well either, but I expect Silseth to have a quality start and keep the Phillies bats at bay. Backing the Angels moneyline in this matchup.
