Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies Betting Prediction

The Atlanta Braves enter this matchup second in the NL East standings, three games behind the New York Mets for first place. The Braves have won the first two games of this series and have won seven of their last 10 games. Atlanta has been good on both sides of the ball throughout the first two games, scoring nine runs while holding the Phillies to four. Atlanta's offense has been solid this season, averaging 4.71 runs per game (6th). The bullpen has also played well with a team ERA of 3.68 (8th). The Braves have been on fire in the month of June, winning 21 of their last 26 games. The third baseman Austin Riley has been a big part of the offense’s success with a batting average of .253 (72-285), 18 home runs, and 43 RBIs.

The Phillies are currently third in the NL East standings, eight games behind the New York Mets for first place. Philadelphia has lost back-to-back games against the Braves in this series and have lost six of their last 10 games. The Phillies have struggled in the first two games against Atlanta, with just four total runs scored. This has not been a common trend for Philadelphia this season as they are averaging 4.68 runs per game (9th). The bullpen has not been great either against the Braves, allowing nine runs over the two games played in this series. This is a bit above Philadelphia’s season ERA of 3.89 (14th). Bad news for the Phillies offense is designated hitter Bryce Harper is out six to eight weeks with a fractured thumb. Harper has been a monster this season with a batting average of .318 (77-242), 15 home runs, and 48 RBIs.

Atlanta has won four of six games against the Phillies this season. I like the value of the Braves money line in game-three. While Philadelphia’s starting pitcher Aaron Nola has been solid this season, I expect the Braves to see some success against him as they have been one of the hottest teams in baseball as of late. I also expect Philadelphia’s offensive struggles to continue with Bryce Harper out. Backing the Braves here in game-three.

Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies – Current Form

The Braves grabbed three of four games last Thursday against the San Francisco Giants, but were tripped up by the Dodgers last Sunday. Atlanta allowed only one run on Monday in the first of four contests against the Giants.

Game two with the San Francisco Giants was Atlanta’s worst in the last seven. They allowed a total of 12 runs. The Phillies were tripped up by the Texas Rangers last Wednesday, but didn’t grab any of two games last Sunday against the Padres. In Friday’s game, the second of four they played against the San Diego Padres, the offense of Philadelphia didn’t manage to produce even a single run. They dominated the San Diego Padres with eight runs on Sunday, in the fourth of a four-game series.

Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies – Pitching Matchup

Atlanta: Ian Anderson (6-4, 4.60 ERA)

The Braves’ right-hander Ian Anderson owns a 6-4 record and 4.60 ERA in his 14th start of the season. Anderson also posted a 1.45 WHIP, while striking out 65 and walking 36 batters in 74.1 innings this season. Anderson lost his most recent start against the Los Angeles Dodgers, as Atlanta’s right-hander surrendered four runs on six hits, four walks, and six strikeouts during the Braves’ 1-4 home loss on June 24, 2022. In eight road starts this season, Anderson has compiled a 5-2 record in 45.2 innings, while striking out 40, walking 18 batters, and putting together a 3.55 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP.

Philadelphia: Aaron Nola (4-5, 2.98 ERA)

Aaron Nola will make his 15th start of the season for Philadelphia, who’s hoping to find some traction after posting a 4-5 record and 2.98 ERA thus far, while tallying a 0.90 WHIP, 13 walks, and 109 strikeouts across 96.2 innings of action. The 29-year-old right-hander couldn’t lift the Phillies to win on the road over the San Diego Padres on June 24, 2022. In his losing start, Nola tossed seven innings in the 1-0 defeat by the San Diego Padres, while giving up one run on seven hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks. Pitching at home this season, Nola is 2-1 with a 4.10 ERA, a 0.79 WHIP, six walks and 48 strikeouts over 41.2 innings in seven starts.
