The Atlanta Braves were first known as the Boston Red Stockings from 1876 to 1882. The team moved from Boston in 1953 to take up residence in Milwaukee as the Braves. That stint lasted until 1966 when the franchise found a permanent home in Atlanta.

The Braves were part of the National League’s West Division until 1994 when they joined the NL East as their current division. A year later under the guidance of Bobby Cox as manager, Atlanta won the 1995 World Series.

Previous championship runs date all the way back to 1892 as the Boston Beaneaters. The second world title was in 1914 as the Boston Braves. The Milwaukee Braves won the 1957 World Series with Hank Aaron as the team’s top player.

As a fixture in the NL East since the mid-1990’s, natural rivalries have formed against the Miami Marlins, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals as the other four MLB teams in that division.
