Betting on the Miami Marlins
The Miami Marlins have been a fixture in South Florida since the early 1990’s as part of that city’s expansive professional sports presence. Betting on the Marlins has grown in popularity the past few years in states with legal sportsbooks.
Miami Marlins Team Overview
Major League Baseball has always had a strong presence in South Florida through various spring training team facilities. As part of the league’s expansion plans, the Florida Marlins made their debut in 1993 as the newest MLB franchise.
The Marlins made an impact right away with a World Series title in 1997. Jim Leyland was the manager that season and Kevin Brown was the team’s top player. Florida beat the Cleveland Indians with a thrilling Game 7 victory in that best-of-seven series.
In 2003 as a wild card team in the National League East, catcher Ivan Rodriguez was the featured player in another World Series run. This time around, the Marlins knocked off the New York Yankees in six games to clinch their second MLB Championship. Rodriguez was named the Most Valuable Player of that series.
To better identify with their South Florida fan base, the team changed its name to the Miami Marlins in 2012. Playing in the NL East for almost three decades, natural rivalries have formed against the Atlanta Braves, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals.
You could add the American League East Division Tampa Bay Rays to that list as the other Florida-based MLB franchise.
There are any number of ways to bet on a Marlins’ game in a state with legal sportsbooks. If Miami was listed as a -125 home favorite on the MLB money line, you would have to wager $125 to win $100 on a Marlins’ victory.
Betting on the Miami Marlins in Florida
Sports betting in Florida was legalized in 2021 through an amended gaming compact with the Seminole Tribe. Even with federal approval from the US Department of the Interior, various legal challenges to that amended compact have put the matter into the hands of the court system, and there remains a moratorium on legal betting in the state.
Miami Marlins’ fans can still legally bet on the team in states with the proper laws in place for sports betting.
Miami Marlins Partnership With Sportsbooks
The Miami Marlins do not have a partnership in place with a US sportsbook operator at this time. However, the team took a progressive approach to daily fantasy sports (DFS) through a partnership with Monkey Knife Fight.
The Marlins named Money Knife Fight an official fantasy sports partner of the team in August of 2020. As part of the deal, the popular DFS site received in-stadium branding, exposure on all team digital assets and brand mentions in all Marlins’ radio and TV game broadcasts. Online sports betting in Florida remains illegal after legal challenges.
