New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves Betting Analysis

The Mets will visit the Braves at Truist Park for the first of a three-game set on Friday, September 30, 2022.

The Mets currently pace the National League East with a record of 98-58, despite owning a lackluster 47-31 record away from Citi Field on the year. The Braves are in second place in the National League East with a record of 97-59 overall and 52-26 at home, which positions Atlanta one games back for the division lead.

New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves Betting Prediction

The Mets enter this matchup with a one game lead over the second-place Atlanta Braves in the NL East division. Both teams have clinched a playoff spot as one will win the division and the other will be left with a wild card berth, but who will win the division has yet to be decided. New York has been playing good baseball as of late, winning seven of their last 10 games. Their offense has been consistent throughout the season with a batting average of .258 (3rd), on base percentage of .332 (2nd), slugging percentage of .410 (10th) and have scored 744 total runs (4th). The Mets bullpen battled through injuries this season but finally seem to have a healthy rotation. On the season they have a WHIP of 1.19 (7th) and team ERA of 3.58 (8th). The right-hander Jacob deGrom (5-3, 2.93 ERA) is scheduled to start Friday.

Atlanta is currently second in the NL East standings, one game behind the Mets for first place of the division. As mentioned before, both teams have clinched a playoff berth, but this series will have huge implications for who will win the division. Atlanta has been on fire in the second half of the season and have won six of their last 10 games. The offense has had solid production with a batting average of .253 (8th), on base percentage of .317 (10th), slugging percentage of .442 (2nd) and have scored 764 total runs (3rd). Their bullpen has also played well with a WHIP of 1.19 (6th) and team ERA of 3.43 (5th). Southpaw pitcher Max Fried (13-7, 2.50) is expected to start for the Braves Friday.

I like the Braves to take game-one of this series with the Braves playing at home and their ace Max Fried taking the mound. deGrom has been solid as well this season but struggled in his most recent outing against the Athletics, giving up six hits and five runs in 4.0 innings of work. The Mets are not a bad play here, but there is much better value in backing the Braves as underdogs at home here.

Score Prediction: Braves 4, Mets 3
Best Bet: Braves ML (+105)

New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves – Pitching Matchup

New York: Jacob deGrom (5-3, 2.93 ERA)

New York’s right-hander Jacob deGrom takes the mound for his 10th start of the season. deGrom looks to improve on a 5-3 record and 2.93 ERA in 58.1 innings, while striking out 91, walking eight batters, and posting a 0.74 WHIP. The Mets were no match for the Oakland Athletics, losing 10-4 on September 24, 2022 behind deGrom’s losing start with four innings of work. The 34-year-old yielded five runs on six hits, while striking out five and issuing four walks. In four road starts this season, deGrom has compiled a 1-2 record in 22.2 innings, while striking out 28, walking five batters, and putting together a 3.57 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP.

The 28-year-old left-hander couldn’t lift the Braves to win on the road over the Philadelphia Phillies on September 22, 2022. In his losing start, Fried tossed five innings in the 1-0 defeat by the Philadelphia Phillies, while giving up one run on five hits with eight strikeouts and one walk. Pitching at home this season, Fried is 7-4 with a 2.46 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP, 25 walks and 95 strikeouts over 102.2 innings in 17 starts.
