Video Games With the Most Profane Dialogue

GTA IV contains the most profanity words amongst video game dialogue
Swearing has become the norm when it comes to their inclusion in video games with most of the dialogue containing profanity words.
Despite age restrictions in place, we all know that younger audiences manage to get a hold of these types of video games, exposing them to bad language.
To discover which of our favorites have the most exposure to profanity, the team here at VegasInsider analyzed some of the most popular games scripts and tallied the total number of swear words used.
A total of 12 different profanity words were used for data collection for scripts that were available online.
After tallying the numbers, it can be revealed that GTA IV was officially the video game containing the worst language throughout the dialogue.
1,645 curse words were found throughout the script, with almost 800 of those coming from the F bomb.

Cyberpunk 2077 ranked second behind GTA IV with over 1,200 foul-mouthed words used, shockingly almost 50% of those came from variations of f**k.
Rounding off the top 3 was GTA V, however it seems the developers changed the number of cursing in within the dialogue from its predecessor.
GTA had another game amongst the top 10 in the shape of San Andreas, narrowly behind the second Red Dead Redemption.
When it came to the words specifically used, f**k and s**t were by far the most popular choices within the scripts for each game.
Astonishingly, the combined total number for both of those particular words were 4,599, making up 69% from all the words used in the study.
Methodology
Total of 11 games were used in the study from various franchises of games where the full scripts were available.
12 profanity words were used to calculate the number of total profanity words used in each game.
All data correct as of June 2025.
