76ers vs Spurs

by Michael Crosson

Spurs rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama is having an excellent campaign. He enters this contest averaging just under 20 points per game on 54% from the field to go along with averages of 10.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 3.2 blocks in his 36 professional appearances thus far.

Unfortunately, however, Wembanyama’s success hasn’t translated into much success for his team, as the Spurs own the worst record in the Western Conference by a four-game margin at 8-34 – currently ranked 28th in offensive rating and 24th in defensive rating.

There’s been no shortage of points for SAS as of late though. The Spurs have scored 115-plus points in seven of their last nine games, despite yielding a lackluster record of 3-6 during that span.

While on the other side of that same coin, the Sixers have also partaken in their fair share of high-scoring bouts recently, highlighted by Philly scoring 124-points in three straight games prior to their latest affair, which saw them score just 97 points in an eight-point win over Charlotte. I’m taking the over in this one.

Celtics vs Mavericks

Dallas Mavericks +3.5 (-110)

Dallas owns an underwhelming 24-18 record, especially after starting the season 6-1. The Mavericks are off a long layoff last playing on Wednesday with Friday's game postponed, having ample prep time for a huge opportunity on the schedule against one of the top teams in the league. Boston leads the Eastern Conference at 33-10 but the Celtics are 20-1 at home and a modest 13-9 on the road.

Boston played a huge game Friday hosting Denver for the team's first home loss of the season and then squeaked out a win in Houston Sunday. A huge game with last season's Eastern Conference champions is up next in Miami later this week. These teams haven't met in more than a year with Boston winning both meetings last season, but Dallas is on a 4-2 S/U run in the series and this line will be higher than Boston's road favorite price in Dallas last January.

Dallas is only 13-9 S/U at home this season, but the Mavericks have been a stronger ATS performer than Boston this season and the Celtics have lost several recent road games vs. top teams taking road loses in Oklahoma City, Indiana, and Milwaukee in January. Jrue Holiday and Al Horford are battling injuries with both players sitting out on Sunday. That meant a heavy workload for many players yesterday as the Celtics effectively only played eight with six players playing at least 30 minutes.

Dallas has rarely been at full strength with a complete lineup in recent weeks yet still has recent home wins vs. elite competition including beating Minnesota and New Orleans in January. Boston has been the stronger season performer, but this is a favorable set-up for the Mavericks to be an upset threat Monday night.
