Subject to Change

  • Spread: Jazz -6.5
  • Money-Line: Utah -260, New Orleans +220
  • Total: 235

The Jazz come into Monday’s contest as a 6.5-point favorite, marking the fourth time that the Pelicans have been listed as an ‘underdog’ in their last six games. While the total for this matchup currently sits at OU 235 – which is the highest total set for a game containing the Jazz so far this year (Previously, O 233 vs MIL).

Jazz vs. Pelicans Current Form-Last Game

The Jazz head into this contest having won three of their last four games, with their only loss across that stretch occurring on the front half of a back-to-back against the Heat, 124-116.

Utah’s most recent affair resulted in a 15-point win over the Magic – propelled by 31 points on 10-19 shooting from Donovan Mitchell.

Contrarily, the Pelicans have rendered losses in four of their past six contests, with three of the defeats during their current skid coming in matchups that New Orleans was favored in.

The Pelicans most recent matchup resulted in a 3-point loss to the Spurs – as DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge carved up New Orleans’ defense for 63 combined points on 57% from the field in a victory for San Antonio.

Jazz vs. Pelicans Head-to-Head

  • Jan. 21, 2021 - Jazz 129 vs. Pelicans 118, Utah -6.5, Over 218
  • Jan. 19, 2021 - Jazz 118 vs. Pelicans 102, Utah -6.5, Over 218

The Jazz and Pelicans have already met up twice during this year’s regular season, which has resulted in two double-digit victories for Utah.

Zion Williamson racked up 32 points on 14-19 from the field during the first meeting between these teams, but New Orleans still failed to pull within striking distance of the Jazz as the Pelicans’ 6-26 clip from three-point territory inevitably led to a 16-point victory for Utah.

While the most recent matchup between these teams ended up being the “Donovan Mitchell Show” as Utah’s superstar went off for 36 points on 58% from the field in an 11-point victory for the Jazz.

Utah Jazz Betting Outlook

Inside the Stats (2020-2021)

  • Overall: 27-7 SU, 25-9 ATS, 16-17-1 OU
  • Road: 12-5 SU, 11-6 ATS, 8-8-1 OU

After taking the first couple weeks of the new season to knock off the rust (4-4 SU), the Jazz have been nearly unstoppable since the dawn of the new year – having won 23 of their last 26 games, with Utah’s only losses across that stretch consisting of quality opponents in Denver, Miami, and Los Angeles.

The total has now gone ‘over’ in three of Utah’s last four games. Make note though, all those totals were set in the 220’s. Whereas the ‘over-under’ for Monday’s contest has been set at a lofty bar of OU 235 due to the ‘over’ being 24-9 in Pelicans games so far this year.

New Orleans Pelicans Betting Outlook

Inside the Stats (2020-2021)

  • Overall: 14-19 SU, 14-19 ATS, 24-9 OU
  • Home: 9-7 SU, 7-9 ATS, 14-2 OU

The Pelicans approach Monday’s contest in the midst of another rough patch – having lost seven of their last 10 games, while also failing to cover the spread in all those losses.

New Orleans still scores at an efficient rate though, ranking 6th in the league in offensive rating (115.7), which is a better clip than both the Trail Blazers and Lakers.

That being said, the Pelicans also rank 29th in the league in defensive rating (116.1), which is actually worse defense than both the Wizards and Nets play.

Key Injuries

Utah Jazz

  • PG Mike Conley: Hamstring - Probable

New Orleans Pelicans

  • SG J.J. Redick: Hamstring - Questionable

Player Prop Best Bet

Lonzo Ball – Over 15.5 Points (-118)

Lonzo Ball has noticeably ramped up his offensive production for the Pelicans lately – having now scored 16 or more points in five of his last six games, with his only ‘under’ across that stretch coming in a 10-point win over the Pistons (12 pts).

I’ll back Ball to keep it rolling here with another productive day on the scoreboard in a primetime matchup with the Jazz.

Jazz vs. Pelicans Prediction

The Jazz head into Monday’s contest having already mounted two double-digit victories over the Pelicans this season, with the spread for the third meeting between these teams favoring Utah by just 7-8 points at most shops.

I’ll back the Jazz to cover here, considering Utah has already asserted its ability to handle New Orleans this season, while still owning the best record in the league SU and ATS.

Score Prediction: Jazz 126, Pelicans 114
Best Bet: Utah -6.5
