PHOENIX SUNS VS. ATLANTA HAWKS PREDICTIONS

After finishing fifth in the East with a record of 41-31 SU last year, Atlanta posted a surprisingly slow start to this season, as the Hawks opened with a frustrating 17-25 SU and 15-27 ATS skid – despite getting tagged as favorites in 25 of those matchups.

The Hawks dominated the back-half of January though, considering Atlanta enters Thursday’s contest riding a solid 7-1 SU and ATS run – while scoring roughly 116 PPG and allowing just 107 PPG across that span.

On the other hand, Phoenix stormed out to a triumphant start to the season, as the Suns kicked things off with a sturdy 27-8 SU and 18-17 ATS run – with 18 of those victories coming by 10+ PTS.

The Suns have cranked up the heat recently though, considering Phoenix enters Thursday riding an impressive 14-1 SU and 10-5 ATS stretch – while scoring roughly 117 PPG and allowing just 105 PPG across that window.

I’ll take the over here, as we’ll likely see a competitive high-scoring battle between a Hawks squad that’s averaging 116 PPG across their current 7-1 SU run – and a Suns squad that’s tallied 115+ PTS in six of their last nine games (118.5 PPG).

PHOENIX SUNS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 41-9
  • ATS: 28-22
  • O/U: 22-27-1

After battling Utah for the conference crown all the way through the final day of last year’s regular season (51-21 SU), Phoenix was surprisingly rusty to start the new season, as the Suns lost three of their first four games out of the gate – while scoring 107 PTS or less in three of those contests (106.3 PPG).

Clearly, Phoenix just needed a few days to warm up though, considering the Suns boast records of 40-6 SU and 27-19 ATS since that four-game opening skid, while ranking 3rd in the league in both scoring and offensive efficiency (113 PPG, 1.103 OE) – and on the flipside, ranking 7th in points allowed and 2nd in defensive efficiency (105.1 PPG, 1.026 DE).

ATLANTA HAWKS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 24-26
  • ATS: 22-28
  • O/U: 26-24

The Hawks entered this season with relatively high expectations following last year’s impressive playoff run, as Atlanta dominated the Knicks in a five-game first-round set, and then stunned the top-seeded Sixers in the second – before ultimately falling short against the Bucks in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Atlanta finally started living up to those lofty expectations in the waning days of January though, considering the Hawks enter Thursday’s matchup following wins in seven of their last eight games – while generating 116 PPG offensively across that span.

The Hawks are 7-0 SU in their last seven home matchups against Phoenix. (AP)

PHOENIX SUNS VS. ATLANTA HAWKS HEAD-TO-HEAD

The Suns and Hawks split a two-game regular-season set last year, with both contests soaring over the total at a lofty average of 232.5 PPG. The most recent matchup between these teams took place back in November of this season though, which resulted in another high-scoring victory for Phoenix (121-117).

KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH

  • PHO: Chris Paul - PG (14.9 PPG, 4.5 REB, 10.4 AST)
  • ATL: Trae Young - PG (27.7 PPG, 4.1 REB, 9.3 AST)

PHOENIX SUNS VS. ATLANTA HAWKS BETTING CONCLUSION

After extending their win streak to 11 games with a victory over Brooklyn on Tuesday night, the Suns enter Thursday’s contest as moderate home favorites over the visiting Hawks – marking the seventh time Atlanta has been an underdog across their last 15 games.

I’ll take the over here, as we’ll likely see a fast-paced shootout between a Suns squad that’s averaging 117 PPG across their current 14-1 SU run – and a Hawks squad that’s scored 120+ PTS in four of their last eight games (117 PPG).
