LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS vs. LOS ANGELES LAKERS BETTING PREDICTION

The Lakers finished 11th in the West with a record of 33-49 last season, as L. A. fell victim to the injury bug for a second straight season, highlighted by Anthony Davis missing 42 of those contests and Lebron missing 26 of them. It’s easy to make excuses for this Lakers squad, but it always boils down to the same thing. This is one of the worst three-point shooting teams in the league, and they’ve done very little to address that concern. And it showed again on opening night, as the Lakers knocked down just 10-of-40 three-point attempts in a 123-109 loss to Golden State this past Tuesday.

The Clippers, on the other hand, also dealt with their fair share of injury concerns over the course of last year, as Kawhi Leonard missed the entire season and Paul George participated in just 31 contests. But Tyronn Lue’s squad never made any excuses, as the Clippers finished eighth in the conference with a record of 42-40 and earned a shot at the Play-In Tournament, which was pretty impressive considering the circumstances.

The Lakers are still capable of winning on any given night, however, the Clippers were the best team in L. A. last year despite their top two players missing all or most of the season. So, I’ll back the Clippers with confidence here, as they’re the better team in this matchup by a considerable margin, and honestly, I’m surprised they’re being offered at such a generous price.

Score Prediction: Clippers 116, Lakers 104

LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Clippers finished eighth in the West with a record of 42-40 last year, which technically matched their worst regular season campaign of the last decade, but somehow, last year’s relatively pedestrian showing was some of the most encouraging stuff we’ve seen in years.

Nobody expected the Clippers to put up much of a fight without Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. However, this squad did more than just fight, the Clippers beat out their hometown rivals by nine games despite the absence of their top two players. And with Kawhi and PG back in action now, there’s no doubt in my mind who the better team is in this matchup.

LOS ANGELES LAKERS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Lakers entered last season with sky high expectations after adding nine-time All-Star Russell Westbrook to the roster. However, Westbrook was their only marquee player that stayed healthy, as Lebron and AD both missed roughly half the season due to injury, which never gave this new-look squad a chance to gel and a losing record was the result.

People always blame Westbrook for the Lakers’ struggles, and I’m guilty of it too, but it’s not really his fault. The entire team just can’t shoot, and their lack of shooting ability was on full display again on opening night, as the Lakers scored just 109 PTS on 43% FG and 25% 3FG in a double-digit loss to Golden State this past Tuesday.
