ORLANDO MAGIC vs. NEW YORK KNICKS BETTING PREDICTION

The Knicks were one of the biggest surprises in the league for all the wrong reasons last year, as New York finished 11th in the East with a record of 37-45, which was quite a disappointment after finishing fourth in the conference with a record of 41-31 the season prior. However, it’s been more of the same inconsistency to start this season, as the Knicks opened with a narrow loss to Memphis and a blowout win over Detroit in their first two contests.

The Magic, on the other hand, finished dead last in the East with a record of 22-60 last season, which was the second-worst record in the league behind the Rockets, who finished last in the West with a record of 20-62. And they haven’t looked much better in the opening days of this season, as the Magic shot just 46% FG and 34% 3FG across an 0-3 skid to start.

I’ll back New York to cover here, as Orlando lost three straight games by six or more points to Detroit, Atlanta, and Boston to open the season, and while I’m still not much of a believer in the Knicks, I still expect them to handle business with relative ease against a Magic squad that ranked dead last in offensive rating last year (104.5 ORtg).

Score Prediction: Knicks 114, Magic 104

ORLANDO MAGIC BETTING ANALYSIS

The Magic posted the worst record in the conference last year, which shouldn’t come as a total surprise, as Orlando averaged just 104 PPG on 43% FG and 33% 3FG throughout the regular season, and no matter how tough your defense is, that type of offensive production won’t win many basketball games.

The Magic entered the season with relatively high hopes after drafting Paolo Banchero with the first overall pick in this year’s draft, but they clearly still have lots of work to do at the offensive end, highlighted by Orlando shooting 34-of-98 from three-point range across an 0-3 skid to open the season.

NEW YORK KNICKS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Knicks entered last season with sky high expectations after finishing fourth in the East the year prior, and while personally, I expected some regression from the Knicks, I didn’t think they would play quite as poorly as they did last year, as New York finished 11th in the conference and missed the Play-In Tournament, which was a huge disappointment following their previous regular season result.

The Knicks experienced their fair share of health issues last season, but no worse than some of the other squads in the conference. Ultimately, it comes down to the fact that it’s a make-or-miss league, and New York just missed a ton of shots last season, as the Knicks finished the year ranked 27th in team shooting percentage 26th in effective field goal percentages (47% FG, 51% EFG), and it’s tough to win games that way.
