Minnesota Timberwolves +2.5 (-110) @ NOP

Brandon Ingram is finally expected to return to the lineup for the Pelicans tonight after missing the last 29 games with a toe injury. However, they’re playing on the second half of a back-to-back set, I’m not so sure that the return of Ingram will immediately flip the script for them, especially with Zion Williamson still sidelined.

The Pelicans have posted a miserable 3-10 record since New Year’s Day, while ranking 24th in the league in net rating across that window (-4.6 NetRtg), and while ultimately, the return of a premier scoring threat should prove beneficial for them moving forward, I still don’t trust New Orleans with tired legs on the second half of a B2B without Zion on the floor.

The Timberwolves are also banged-up at the moment, though, especially down low, with Rudy Gobert currently listed as questionable with a groin issue, and of course, Karl-Anthony Towns will remain sidelined tonight with a calf injury.

However, following their abysmal 3-9 skid to close December, it finally looks like Minnesota is figuring out how to operate in the absence of Towns.

The Wolves are now 8-4 in their last 12 games, and it’s not like they’ve been playing a bunch of scrubs, highlighted by Minnesota posting tough wins over the Nuggets, Blazers, Clippers, Suns, Cavs, and Raptors during that stretch. So, I’ll take the points with Minnesota on the road here.

Fred VanVleet (TOR) Over 6.5 Assists

The Raptors have been on the struggle bus for the last week or so, considering they own a record of 2-4 in their last six games, while ranking 15th in the league in offensive rating and 22nd in defensive rating across their latest stretch (117.8 ORtg, 120.2 DRtg).

However, as a result, Toronto has been forced to ramp up the pace to an uncomfortable level recently, highlighted by the Raptors ranking 27th in the league in pace of play, yet they enter Wednesday having scored 120+ points in six of their last eight contests.

Regarding Fred VanVleet, though, he’s been on fire for Toronto as of late. VanVleet has tallied lofty averages of 31.3 PPG, 7 AST, and 4.3 REB per game across his last four contests, and prior to his latest performance, he recorded 7+ assists in eight of his last nine outings.

So, I’ll back VanVleet to have a solid night in the passing department in Wednesday’s matchup against a Kings squad that’s either scored or allowed 130+ points in eight of their last nine games.

Spurs-Lakers Over 243 (-110)

The total for this contest is awfully high, with the over-under for Wednesday’s Spurs-Lakers matchup currently stationed north of OU 243 at most shops. And rightfully so, as this is a meeting between a pair of teams that both rank Top 10 in the league in pace and Bottom 5 in defensive rating.

The Lakers are playing on the second half of a back-to-back set tonight. So, rest and availability could potentially become a factor is this one. However, this is a Lakers squad that’s scored 120+ points in 10 of their last 18 games, and they’re averaging 122 PPG across their last five.

While at the other end of the floor, L. A. has also surrendered 120+ points in six of their last nine contests, and their opponent managed to clear the 130-point scoring mark in three of those affairs.

So, I’ll take the ‘over’ in tonight’s tilt against a Spurs squad that ranks dead-last in the league in points allowed (122 PPG), and they’ve now seen five of their last six matchups go ‘over’ 240 points, having combined with their opponents for a lofty average of 251 PPG in their last six contests.
