Regular season NBA action resumes on Sunday night with a compelling non-conference showdown between the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers. Coverage begins from Crypto.com Arena in L. A. at 9:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.

NEW YORK KNICKS vs. LOS ANGELES LAKERS BETTING PREDICTION

The Lakers currently rank 8th in scoring and 2nd in pace (117 PPG, 101.8 PACE), which primarily stems from the run-and-gun style of play that they utilized with LeBron James and Russell Westrbook in the lineup, however, in the aftermath of their trade deadline moves and an injury to King James, this is now a very different L. A.’ squad than the team we’ve seen for most of the year.

With LeBron and Westbrook on the floor, and Anthony Davis hurt early in the season, it only made sense for the Lakers to ramp up the pace and try leaning into their strong suit, but now that the tables have been turned, we’re seeing those numbers drop quickly.

The Lakers boast a solid record of 5-2 in their last seven games, however, their recent success certainly doesn’t stem from a dramatic increase in production at the offensive end, highlighted by L. A.  ranking 21st in offensive rating and 18th in scoring during that span (110.6 ORtg, 113 PPG).

While on the other hand, New York was one of the hottest teams in the league heading into the month of March, highlighted by the Knicks posting wins in nine straight games prior to their latest three-game losing streak.

The pride and joy of the Knicks’ recent success has been their offense, though, and they’ve struggled to gain traction in that department as of late, considering they managed to clear the 120-point scoring mark seven times during their nine-game win streak, and now, they’ve fallen short of that mark in three straight contests.

At the moment, the Lakers are in a position that requires them to slow things down and lean on Davis in a halfcourt set, and quite frankly, there’s a good chance that the Knicks allow them to do so playing on the second half of a back-to-back with a laundry list of health issues heading into this one.

So, I’ll take the under in Sunday’s matchup between a Lakers’ squad that’s averaged just 112 PPG in their last four contests, and a Knicks’ squad that’s tallied just 106 PPG across their last three.
