For a brief moment, the Vikings had the rug ripped out from beneath them as a potential doomsday arrived in the form of a season ending injury to QB Kirk Cousins during the team’s third straight victory – joining superstar WR Justin Jefferson on the sidelines, and setting the stage for an unsettling future in Minnesota.

However, Minnesota quickly pivoted to QB Josh Dobbs at the trade deadline, and it was nothing but smooth sailing in his first two outings, highlighted by the Vikings beating Atlanta by a score of 31-28 and New Orleans 27-19 to extend their win streak to five games prior to losing their latest affair. And they nearly escaped with a sixth straight in last week’s contest too, as the Vikings led Denver by a score of 20-15 with 63 seconds left on the clock before Russell Wilson pulled a rabbit out of his hat with a game-winning TD to snap Minnesota’s streak and temporarily put a pin in the Dobbs hype.

Minnesota was a popular play with the public last week, but after one primetime loss, the general betting audience has quickly abandoned this Vikings team. According to VegasInsider’s Patrick Everson, the Vikings opened -3.5 (-105) at BetMGM and on Thursday dipped to -3 with the book still taking roughly 54% of spread bets and 67% of spread money on Chicago as of Friday evening.

Personally, I bet Denver -2.5 in last week’s Broncos vs. Vikings matchup. But not because I felt Minnesota was grossly overrated or anything of that nature. I just felt the line was slightly disrespectful to the home team (DEN), especially given the brand of football they had been playing in recent weeks. However, one loss has quickly swayed the public opinion of Minnesota, and now I feel the same way about the Vikings as I did Denver in last week’s matchup.

Dobbs has played excellent football all season, and none more impressive than his first two games for Minensota, especially given the circumstances. But let’s give credit where it is due. The main reason the Vikings have won five of their last six matchups is because their defense forced 11 turnovers during that span and held the opposing team under 21 points in five of those contests.

While on the flip side, the Bears enter the week slated for the 1st and 4th overall picks in next year’s draft, and quite frankly, it doesn’t seem like Chicago intends on winning many more games before draft day.. The Bears led Detroit by a score of 26-14 with 2:59 left on the clock in their latest affair, and almost as if somebody called down from the owner’s box instructing them to lose for the sake of the organization, Chicago promptly self-destructed and nearly allowed the Lions to cover a 5.5-point spread in regulation of a game that they trailed by two touchdowns with less than three minutes remaining.

Minnesota lost a heartbreaker on the road in Denver last week. But even after their latest loss, the Vikings have still won five of their last six games, while averaging 23.8 PPG on offense during that span, and allowing just 18 PPG on the defense. I think we’ll see Minnesota win this one with relative ease. Give me the Vikings on Sunday night.

Chicago Bears Betting Analysis

Chicago simply isn’t very good on either side of the ball. The Bears rank 18th in points scored and 29th in points allowed. Their offense ranks 21st in per play yardage and their defense ranks 20th. They rank 24th in offensive DVOA and 25th in defensive DVOA. And to cap it all off, they rank 26th in team turnover differential, which is usually magnified when Fields is under center.

Fields managed to keep a clean sheet with zero interceptions in his return from injury against Detroit last week. But even after last week’s turnover-less performance, he’s still thrown an interception in five of seven starts this season, which already includes an INT in a loss to Minnesota back in Week 6.

Winning the turnover battle is often the key to earning victories, and the Bears simply haven’t done that very often this season.

Minnesota Vikings Betting Analysis

The Vikings rushing attack has been pretty bad all season, as they enter the week ranked 27th in ground yards per game and 26th in yards per carry after failing to reach the 75-yard rushing mark in six of eight contests to open the year.

However, Minnesota’s backfield has quickly sprung to life following the addition of Dobbs, along with the implementation of a pretty even two-man RB rotation between Alex Mattison and Ty Chandler.

The Vikings have rushed for 125+ yards in three straight games, while clearing the 145- yard mark in two of those contests. However, Chicago’s defense leads the league in yards allowed per carry. So, it will be interesting to see if Minnesota’s offense continues to move the ball on the ground efficiently this week.
