NFL Odds for Preseason Week 3's Biggest Games
Los Angeles Chargers vs. San Francisco 49ers Odds
Matchup | Spread | Total | Moneyline |
---|---|---|---|
49ers vs
Chargers | +2.5 (-102)
-2.5 (-118) | o35.5 (-118)
u35.5 (-102) | +130 -155 |
- Opening point spread: 49ers -2.5
- Opening moneyline: 49ers TBA/Chargers TBA
- Opening total: Over/Under 37 points scored
- Time: 8:30 p.m. ET Saturday
UPDATE 6:15 P.M. ET SATURDAY: Two-plus hours before kickoff, the Chargers are laying 1.5 points in Borgata Sports' NFL preseason Week 3 odds. That's a notable move from the opening number of 49ers -3.
Neither L.A.'s Justin Herbert nor San Fran's Brock Purdy are expected to play, and many more starters are likely resting, too.
"It's been mostly L.A. money here on the spread. There's definitely a small need on San Francisco," Borgata sportsbook director Tom Gable said. "The total has dropped 2 points from the opener of 37.5, but there's not much of a decision."
UPDATE 8 P.M. ET MONDAY: Jim Harbaugh's Los Angeles outfit gets the benefit – or perhaps the misfortune – of four preseason games, having played in the July 31 Hall of Fame Game.
The Chargers (2-1 SU and ATS) are coming off 23-22 loss laying 8.5 points vs. the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday. Starting QB Justin Herbert played only the first possession, going 2 of 5 for 46 yards while leading the Bolts to a field goal.
Also on Saturday, Brock Purdy saw his first preseason action for San Francisco (1-1 SU and ATS). Purdy played one possession, going 5 of 7 for 66 yards in leading the 49ers to a field goal at Las Vegas. The Niners went on to win 22-19 as 4.5-point underdogs.
The Chargers-49ers line was a big mover in the first hour after it went up. San Fran opened -2.5, went straight to -4.5 40 minutes later, then a few minutes later advanced to -5. Much like the Steelers-Panthers matchup, professional money showed up early for this game.
"We took sharp action on the 49ers, driving us all the way up to -5," SuperBook risk manager Casey Degnon said.
The total hasn't moved off 37 in The SuperBook's NFL preseason Week 3 odds.
Baltimore Ravens vs. Washington Commanders Odds
Matchup | Spread | Total | Moneyline |
---|---|---|---|
Commanders vs
Ravens | +3 (-108)
-3 (-112) | o35.5 (-122)
u35.5 (even) | +142 -170 |
- Opening point spread: Ravens -2.5
- Opening moneyline: Ravens TBA/Commanders TBA
- Opening total: Over/Under 35.5 points scored
- Time: Noon ET Saturday
UPDATE 11:15 A.M. ET SATURDAY: With 45 minutes until kickoff, the Ravens are -3.5 in Borgata Sports' NFL odds preseason Week 3 market. Baltimore opened -2.5 and moved from -3 to -3.5 this morning.
"It’s been mostly Ravens money," Borgata sportsbook director Tom Gable said from his Atlantic City book, a BetMGM operation. "The total has stayed steady at 35.5, with no movement. There's slightly more money on the Over, but mostly, the Over has just been included in a lot of parlays."
As for BetMGM nationwide, it's all Ravens on the spread, at 88% of tickets/92% of money in digital betting (online/mobile). Moneyline action is heavy on the Ravens, too, at 67% of tickets/88% of money.
Neither Baltimore QB Lamar Jackson nor Washington QB Jayden Daniels are expected to play today. And surely plenty of other key starters will sit, too.
UPDATE 4:30 P.M. ET TUESDAY: Jayden Daniels, coming off a sensational Rookie of the Year campaign for Washington, saw his first preseason action in Week 2. Daniels played one possession vs. Cincinnati, throwing no passes but running for a 14-yard touchdown to tie the game at 7.
The Commanders (0-2 SU and ATS) took a 14-7 lead on their second possession, but ultimately lost 31-17 catching 3.5 points at home Monday night.
For the most part, Baltimore has been a preseason spread-covering machine under John Harbaugh. But the Ravens went 0-6 ATS across the last two exhibition campaigns. However, Baltimore is 2-0 SU and ATS this year, including Saturday's 31-13 win at Dallas in a pick 'em game.
Ravens QB Lamar Jackson hasn't played a down so far in the preseason, and that seems unlikely to change this week.
The SuperBook pegged Baltimore as 2.5-point chalk in the NFL odds preseason Week 3 market, with no movement so far. The total is also stable at 35.5.
Minnesota Vikings vs. Tennessee Titans Odds
Matchup | Spread | Total | Moneyline |
---|---|---|---|
Titans vs
Vikings | -3 (-110)
+3 (-110) | o37.5 (-110)
u37.5 (-110) | -166 +140 |
- Opening point spread: Titans -3
- Opening moneyline: Titans TBA/Vikings TBA
- Opening total: Over/Under 37 points scored
- Time: 8 p.m. ET Friday (CBS)
UPDATE 6 P.M. ET FRIDAY: Tennessee is a 3-point favorite at Borgata Sports and briefly got as high as -3.5, after this game opened Vikings -1.5 in NFL preseason Week 3 odds.
" The Titans flipped to favorites about two hours after opening the game [Monday] and are now at -3," Borgata sportsbook director Tom Gable said. "It’s been all Titans money early, and even today, they’re still laying the 3 with Tennessee."
Borgata's total hasn't moved off 37.5 this week.
UPDATE 11 A.M. ET FRIDAY: Titans rookie QB Cam Ward is expected to play a few series tonight. But Vikings second-year QB and first-year starter J.J. is not expected to play tonight. And plenty of other starters for both teams will likely sit out.
With that news, it's no surprise that this line – like many other preseason games – had a big move, opening at Vikings -1.5 and now at Titans -4 at BetMGM. That said, it's two-way spread play, with 52% of bets on Minnesota and 58% of money on Tennessee.
The total opened at 37.5, and that's where it sits now, with 68% of bets/78% of cash on the Over.
UPDATE 8 P.M. ET MONDAY: No. 1 overall draft pick Cam Ward saw time for Tennessee in both preseason games, starting in Week 1. It's likely he'll get a longer look this week. In Week 2 at Atlanta, the Titans won and covered 23-20 as 2.5-point favorites.
Minnesota (1-1 SU and ATS) has a new QB, as well, though J.J. McCarthy is actually in his second season. McCarthy missed all of last year with a knee injury and hasn't played yet in the preseason. In Week 2, the Vikings lost to New England 20-12 giving 1.5 points at home.
Vikings-Titans opened this afternoon at Tennessee -3 in preseason Week 3 NFL odds. There's been no movement so far. Ditto for the total of 37.
Chicago Bears vs. Kansas City Chiefs Odds
Matchup | Spread | Total | Moneyline |
---|---|---|---|
Chiefs vs
Bears | +3 (-115)
-3 (-105) | o42.5 (-110)
u42.5 (-110) | +136 -162 |
- Opening point spread: Chiefs -4.5
- Opening moneyline: Chiefs TBA/Bears TBA
- Opening total: Over/Under 39 points scored
- Time: 8:20 p.m. ET Friday
UPDATE 6 P.M. ET FRIDAY: This number has been all over the map at Borgata Sports. Kansas City opened -3 and got as high as -4.5, but the line has since run the other way, with Chicago -1.5.
"We know both Caleb Williams and Patrick Mahomes will be starting this game. But it’s not likely we will see Mahomes beyond one or two series," Borgata sportsbook director Tom Gable said.
The total climbed from 38.5 to 42.5.
"That was driven up by early Over money," Gable said.
UPDATE 11 A.M. ET FRIDAY: Patrick Mahomes and the starters are expected to get a little playing time tonight for the Chiefs. Ditto for Caleb Williams and other Bears starters.
Kansas City opened as 3-point chalk in BetMGM's NFL odds preseason Week 3 market, and they're now -1.5 (-115). Chicago is netting 60% of spread bets/59% of spread money.
Interestingly, this preseason total actually surged up, opening at 38.5 and now at 42.5. The Over is getting 81% of bets/85% of money.
UPDATE 8 P.M. ET MONDAY: Kansas City (0-2 SU and ATS) hasn't played Patrick Mahomes so far, but perhaps he'll see a little time to close out the preseason. In Week 2, the Chiefs were 5.5-point 'pups at Seattle and lost 33-16.
Chicago (1-0-1 SU/2-0 ATS) is coming off what looks like an impressive win. But keep in mind, this is preseason, as evidenced by the Bears being 2.5-point favorites at Buffalo. Chicago ended up posting a 38-0 blowout victory.
Caleb Williams started and played two series, leading a touchdown drive on the first. Williams went 6 of 10 for 107 yards, throwing a short pass to Olamide Zaccheaus that turned into a 36-yard TD.
Kansas City opened -4.5 in NFL preseason Week 3 odds at The SuperBook, with a total of 39. There's been no movement on the spread or total in the first few hours, a recurring theme so far in Week 3.
"These other games have nothing to them yet. It's too early in the week for the recreational bettors, and there's not enough information out there for the sharp action," SuperBook risk manager Casey Degnon said.
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Carolina Panthers Odds
Matchup | Spread | Total | Moneyline |
---|---|---|---|
Panthers vs
Steelers | +6.5 (-108)
-6.5 (-112) | o34.5 (-112)
u34.5 (-108) | +245 -305 |
- Opening point spread: Steelers -3
- Opening moneyline: Steelers TBA/Panthers TBA
- Opening total: Over/Under 35.5 points scored
- Time: 7 p.m. ET Thursday (NFL Network)
UPDATE 5 P.M. ET THURSDAY: In the wee hours of Monday morning, Carolina hit DraftKings Sportsbook's odds board as a 3-point favorite. By lunchtime Monday, the line had already flipped to Pittsburgh -2.5 (-115).
A couple hours later, the Steelers touched -5.5, then spent the past couple days bouncing between -5.5/-4.5 at various juice. This evening, the number just got to Pittsburgh -6, with spread tickets running 2/1 and spread money 4/1 on the Steelers.
DK opened the total at 36.5 (Under -115) and spent the past two days toggling between 35.5/34.5, again at various juice. The total is now 34.5 (Over -115), with tickets just shy of 2/1 on the Over and money 3/1 on the Over.
UPDATE NOON ET THURSDAY: Aaron Rodgers' Pittsburgh debut won't come until the Sept. 7 season opener at the New York Jets. And Carolina QB Bryce Young also isn't expected to play tonight.
As has been the case for many preseason games, the point spread has seen a significant shift, jumping the fence at BetMGM. Carolina opened -1.5, but early in the week, the number ran all the way to Pittsburgh -4.5.
The Steelers are now up to -5.5 while landing 74% of spread bets. But spread money is two-way, with 54% on the host Panthers. BetMGM trading manager Christian Cipollini said there's no real need in either of tonight's preseason games.
"We need the regular season to start is what we really need," Cipollini said. "There's really no lean for us tonight."
The total is down to 35 from a 36.5 opener, though 70% of bets/72% of dollars are on the Over.
UPDATE 8 P.M. ET MONDAY: Aaron Rodgers has yet to make his debut for Pittsburgh, which is 1-1 SU and ATS in preseason play. In Week 2 Saturday, the Steelers lost to Tampa Bay 17-14 on a final-seconds field goal, failing to cover as 1.5-point road underdogs.
Carolina (0-2 SU and ATS) has gotten blown out in both its preseason games, with starting QB Bryce Young seeing limited action in both games. In Week 2 at Houston on Saturday, the Panthers mustered only a second-quarter field goal in a 20-3 loss catching 3 points.
This afternoon, The SuperBook opened the Steelers at -3 in the NFL odds preseason Week 3 market. Within an hour, the line jumped straight to Steelers -4.5, showing the volatility often found in exhibition games.
"We took a respected bet, which brought us up to 4.5," SuperBook risk manager Casey Degnon said.
The total opened and remains a tidy 35.5.
New England Patriots vs. New York Giants Odds
Matchup | Spread | Total | Moneyline |
---|---|---|---|
Giants vs
Patriots | -4.5 (-110)
+4.5 (-110) | o36.5 (-118)
u36.5 (-102) | -225 +185 |
- Opening point spread: Giants -4
- Opening moneyline: Giants TBA/Patriots TBA
- Opening total: Over/Under 37.5 points scored
- Time: 8 p.m. ET Thursday (Prime)
UPDATE 5 P.M. ET THURSDAY: Much like Steelers-Panthers, this game has seen significant line movement. DraftKings opened at Giants -2.5, got to -3.5 within a few hours Monday, then Tuesday shot all the way to -6.5, with stops at -4.5/-6 along the way.
It's now New York -6 on two-way action: 58% of bets on the Patriots/61% of money on the Giants.
The total is down to 36.5 (Under -115) from a 38.5 (Under -115) opener. That said, 80% of bets/84% of dollars are on the Over.
UPDATE NOON ET THURSDAY: Based on multiple news reports, it sounds as if both teams will rest quite a few starters tonight. That includes starting QBs Drake May for New England and Russell Wilson for New York.
Based on who's in and who's out, oddsmakers have significantly bumped this line out. BetMGM opened the Giants -2.5 and is now up to Giants -6.5. Pretty much all of that movement came Monday/Tuesday. Spread tickets are running dead even, but 76% of spread dollars are on New York.
The total opened and remains 37.5, with 86% of tickets/85% of money on the Over.
UPDATE 8 P.M. ET MONDAY: It's likely not a battle of future playoff teams. But the quarterback situation, particularly with New York, makes this matchup intriguing.
Rookie Jaxson Dart has helped the Giants go 2-0 SU and ATS in preseason play. On Saturday night in Week 2, the Giants were 3-point "home" favorites against their stadium roommate New York Jets, and the G-Men rolled 31-12.
Dart completed 14 of 16 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown. Longtime NFL veteran Russell Wilson, an offseason acquisition, is still atop the Giants' depth chart. But the buzz is all around Dart.
New England is also 2-0 SU and ATS, with no QB controversy. Drake Maye, in his second season, is the no-doubt starter and has seen few preseason snaps thus far. In Week 2, the Patriots beat Minnesota 20-12 as 1.5-point road underdogs.
The spread and total are stable on The SuperBook's NFL preseason Week 3 odds board, still sitting at this afternoon's openers of Giants -4/37.5.
