Betting on the Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers have been a mainstay among southern NFL fans for close to three decades. More recently, this has become a popular betting team in southern states with legal sports betting.
Carolina Panthers Overview
The Carolina Panthers were one of two new NFL expansion franchises to begin play in 1995. Local fans did not have to wait all that long for the Panthers to make an impact in the league.
Led by the franchise’s first head coach Dom Capers, Carolina almost went to the Super Bowl in just its second season. The Panthers were 12-4 in 1996 and went all the way to the 1997 NFC Championship Game.
In 2003 with John Fox as head coach, the Panthers qualified for Super Bowl XXXVIII by winning the NFC. They came up short against the New England Patriots in a 32-29 loss.
A second trip to the league’s championship game was engineered by quarterback Cam Newton in 2014. With his team going 15-1 in the regular season, Newton was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player
Despite posting the best record in team history, Carolina fell just short of winning a Super Bowl title. This time around, the Panthers were on the wrong end of a 24-10 loss to the Denver Broncos.
A few of the other prominent NFL players that have played for Carolina include Christian McCaffrey, Julius Peppers, Jake Delhomme and Luke Kuechly.
Playing in the NFC South, the Panthers have formed some heated rivalries along the way. The Atlanta Falcons would top that list as the closest rival from a geographic standpoint. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints are the two other NFL teams in that division.
A popular way to bet on Carolina in a NFC Division matchup is on the NFL’s total line. This betting option is a choice between the OVER or UNDER on a game’s combined score.
Suppose the total line in a game between Carolina and New Orleans was set at 48 points. To win a bet on the OVER, these two teams would have to score a combined 49 points or more in the final score.

It is legal to bet on the Carolina Panthers in North Carolina in a limited fashion. There are currently two tribal casinos that offer legal sports betting through retail sportsbooks. Online sports betting in North Carolina remains illegal at this time.
The two Harrah’s casinos are owned and operated by the Cherokee Tribe in the northwest region of the state. A third tribal casino is under construction near the South Carolina border.
State lawmakers are also working on legislation that would pave the way for expansion. This could include a retail sportsbook at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte as the Panthers’ home field. Online betting would also be legalized through mobile sportsbook apps.
