2021 Houston Texans Betting Odds, Predictions, Preview

It was a rough offseason for the Houston Texans. QB Deshaun Watson demanded a trade, and then some off-field issues have made him untradeable, even if the organization was interested in going that route. That situation needs to clear up first. As such, Houston must turned to rookie Davis Mills to try and lead the offense, or trust veteran Tyrod Taylor.

The Texans also traded the face of the franchise, longtime defensive stalwart J.J. Watt to the Arizona Cardinals, so the defense also has some question marks. Houston doesn't figure to win very many games, and the books agree, as they're expected to lose double-digit games in 2021.

The early portion of the schedule isn't too terrible, as they have a toss-up game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and a home game in Week 3 against Carolina is also very winnable. It goes downhill very quickly after that, however, with a gauntlet in October against five postseason contenders, including three games on the road in Buffalo, Indianapolis and Arizona. By the time Halloween rolls around, there might be quite a few tricks, and very few treats, if any.

Around the holidays, the Titans are gifted with games against the Jets and Jaguars, but even those games won't be slam-dunk victory opportunities with the way Houston is looking heading into the season. There is a reason Under 4.5 (-159) will cost you so much, as it's the slam-dunk play on the board. This has the looks of a three-win team, assuming Watson doesn't have his off-field situation resolved, and he doesn't have a change of heart, deciding to play in Houston.

Houston Texans Odds to Win AFC South

+2800

The Texans aren't topping the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans, and there is an outside chance that they end up getting swept in the AFC South, as the Jacksonville Jaguars will not be a pushover with rookie QB Trevor Lawrence leading the offense. It's going to be a long, long season in H-Town.

Houston Texans Odds to Win AFC Championship

+8000

No. Just no. There is no reason to really write too much. It isn't happening, not with a rookie quarterback, or journeyman Tyrod Taylor, and a patchwork defense.

Houston Texans Odds to Win Super Bowl 56

+17500

See above. The Texans weren't sniffing the Super Bowl even when they were making the playoffs. This is a team closer to securing the No. 1 overall draft pick for 2022 rather than securing the Lombardi Trophy.

Houston Texans 2021 MVP Contenders & Odds

Deshaun Watson +5000

Tyrod Taylor +20000

The Watson situation is just too murky, and you shouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole. And if Taylor ends up beating out Mills in training camp and the preseason, he is only likely to be a caretaker, keeping the seat warm until the rookie is ready to go. Taylor isn't a legitimate MVP candidate, even if he were in the CFL.

Houston Texans Preseason Betting Odds & Markets

Make Playoff?: Yes +725 No -1250
Most Games Won: +20000
Fewest Games Won: +225
Coach of the Year: David Culley +5000

The best bet here would be the Texans not making the playoffs, but there is just no value playing a bet with such little potential return.

Instead, playing the fewest games won for a chance to more than double up on your initial investment. The Texans should be a two- or three-win team with a very good chance of winning the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Houston is going to be terrible, and they might only be favored once or twice this season.
