Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Houston Texans Predictions

Score Prediction - Jaguars 23 Texans 20

If there’s one team that's just an absolute mess this season, it's the Houston Texas. With Deshaun Watson seemingly not available to play, this team lost its best player by far. Jacksonville is coming into this game with a blank slate and all eyes will be on first overall selection Trevor Lawrence - making his rookie debut. Neither of these teams are projected to have a winning record this year, which makes predicting the outcome of this game a bit tough.

I think one of the biggest differences between the teams are the offensive weapons. Trevor Lawrence has been good in preseason so far, and definitely has the advantage over Tyrod Taylor at this point in his career. The Jags also have the advantage in the wide receiver room with DJ Chark, Leviska Shenult, and Marvin Jones as a core of solid guys. The Texans will be running out Brandon Cooks, Chris Conley, and Anthony Miller for Tyrod to throw to. There's no need to go position by position, it's clear Houston is very competitive for the title of worst team in the league this year.

All that being said, Jacksonville isn't great either. Their offensive line rates out as one of the worst in football, and I don't think their defense is slowing many teams down. This game seemingly comes down to which team is worse, and for the time being that's the Texans. That being said, I have really no interest in betting Jacksonville as favorites, ever.

The closest I got to betting this game was the under, but with how bad both of these defenses should be I just couldn't do it. Sometimes the best bets are the ones you don't make. If you must wager it, hold your breath and take Jacksonville but avoiding this game isn't terrible to consider.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have lost 15 straight games. (AP)

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Houston Texans Betting Analysis

Looking at these two team matchups from last year would be kind of useless. Deshaun Watson, Houston's best player, is long gone and that dramatically shifts my perception of this team. Jacksonville also has a rookie starter coming in, who should look much better then Gardner Minshew did last season. This game should have plenty of sloppy elements, and I don't have much confidence in either team's coaching staff at this point either. With how many great games we have to bet on in Week 1, consider another game but if you must bet on this then Jacksonville gets a slight edge with little conviction.
