This line keeps moving from the key number of 3 to 3.5, with the Eagles getting the points at home. This is the most important hook of the weekend, with that half-point swinging the play. Don’t get caught up in what happened last weekend so much as how key matchups will determine the outcome.
The Falcons might be the worst team in the NFL, so it can’t be that easy for the Eagles this week. The Niners started the bus at the half in Detroit, forgetting they needed to finish out the rest of the game. A letdown like that won’t happen this weekend either. Finding that middle ground is never easy, but the Niners have one key advantage.
The Eagles defensive front manhandled the Falcons line so bad that Matt Ryan was two-dimensional at one point. This is where the Niners have the equalizer and then some, mostly in the form of Trent Williams. It’s not going to be easy for anyone up front to penetrate through the Niners line, allowing necessary time for Jimmy Garoppolo to throw the football.
Jalen Hurts has a solid line up front, but will see a far better defensive unit than Jimmy G. A key difference in this game will be the D-lines, from talent to execution to pressure. The playmakers will be out in full form, Devonta Smith looking to outdo Deebo Samuel.
Both teams feature some electric talent, including two matchup nightmares at TE in George Kittle and to a lesser extent Dallas Goedert. But the game will come down to protection and time, two things Jimmy has over Jalen.
Both teams have legit playmakers with speed, from Deebo Samuel to Devonta Smith. Jalen Reagor and Brandon Ayiuk are also quick complimentary receivers. While the Niners are down Raheem Mostert, they will commit to the run, as will the Eagles and their 3-headed monster.
The Eagles only used three running backs last week – with Hurts being one of them – and dominated YPR. Expect both teams to limit the risks until they absolutely must open things up, allowing for quick passes and a lot of RPOs. All these usually add up to a fast-moving Under play.
