Carolina Panthers vs. New York Giants Predictions

A strong start to the season has quickly faded away for the Carolina Panthers. Carolina won its first three games of the 2021 campaign but has since lost three in a row after a great September. The Panthers are hoping to get back on track against the 1-5 New York Giants, as the Giants have yet to win a home game this season.

The Giants haven’t been competitive in their last two games. They were dominated by the Rams and Cowboys, but they nearly knocked off Washington and Atlanta before beating New Orleans in overtime. Carolina isn’t in the same class as Los Angeles and Dallas, and the Giants will pick up the win.

Sam Darnold was one of the best stories of the young season in September. It looked like Darnold was set to thrive under Joe Brady in Carolina, but his play has dramatically fallen off in October. Darnold has thrown six interceptions in the last three weeks, and he has been sacked 12 times in that stretch. Additionally, the former New York Jets’ top draft choice has averaged 5.0 YPA or less in his last two starts.

There is a dearth of weapons for the Panthers to use at the skill positions. Christian McCaffrey is now on injured reserve after the team was optimistic that he would be able to return early from a hamstring injury, and rookie Chuba Hubbard is not the same threat. Hubbard is running at the same clip as McCaffrey, but he is not the same receiver out of the backfield.

The only receiver that Darnold has eyes for is D.J. Moore. Moore has 40 receptions for 513 yards and three touchdowns, and no one else on Carolina has more than 200 receiving yards. Robby Anderson hasn’t had the impact the Panthers were expecting after the team signed him this offseason, as he has just 15 receptions in 40 targets with both misreads and drops playing a part in the poor catch rate.

You have to keep an eye on the injury report before betting this game. The Giants are a sharp pick if they have most of their skill position players available, but everyone of note is questionable or worse as of Friday morning.

Saquon Barkley is questionable and didn’t participate in practice on Thursday and missed last week’s game against the Rams. Speedy rookie receiver Kadarius Toney is doubtful, and he didn’t partake in practice on Thursday either.

Kenny Golladay, Sterling Shepard, John Ross III, Darius Slayton, and Evan Engram are all listed as questionable too. Those six players and Toney are the top six receivers on the Giants, so this team needs at least a handful of those players available this Sunday.

The good news is that Daniel Jones will play once again after leaving early against Dallas. Jones threw three interceptions last week against the Rams, but he was constantly under pressure by a strong defensive line and a ball hawking secondary made him pay.

The Giants have gone UNDER the point total in six of their last seven home games. (AP)

Carolina Panthers vs. New York Giants Betting Conclusion

Once again, it’s important to watch the injury report throughout the week for this game. The Giants are dealing with a litany of injuries to their skill position players, and Jones needs to have at least some of his receivers available against Carolina. Big Blue could have success with the ground game though as the Panthers are allowing 4.7 YPC.
