Detroit Lions vs. Los Angeles Rams Predictions

Who doesn't love a good ole fashioned 16 point spread? Matthew Stafford will be facing his former first team. Since they were traded for each other, Jared Goff will also be facing his former team for the first time, unfortunately for Jared, nobody seems to care. This is a matchup between a top three team and a bottom three team, not very confident the Lions have much of a chance here.

The best thing you can do in this game is likely not watch it. That being said, we are gamblers and here to make some money. The Rams are coming off a sluggish win against the Giants, who were missing 60% of their offense, where they took care of business in the first quarter. The Lions just got crushed by a Bengals team that isn't even close to being as good as the Rams. If the Bengals could demolish the Lions then honestly who cant.

Detroit Lions Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 0-6
  • ATS: 3-3
  • O/U: 2-4
  • ATS - Home: 2-1
  • ATS - Away: 1-2

The Lions will also have a revenge game with Goff facing his former head coach and team this week. Most people credit Goff’s Super Bowl run almost completely to Sean McVay which will be interesting to watch play out. The rumor was that Goff has a complete inability to read opposing defenses leading to McVay having to walk him through it on a play-by-play basis.

Goff has struggled but he isn't fully to blame. The talent he is surrounded by is definitely at the very bottom of the league and that makes it extremely hard to operate. Their starting receivers are people most fans haven't even heard of with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Kalif Raymond. D'Andre Swift is a good running back but its extremely hard to establish the run when you fall behind every game in the first quarter.

Initially I looked at the Lions here, but after realizing there is no look ahead spot for the Rams I think they just destroy them. Stafford gets to show Detroit exactly what they are missing and has one of the best supporting casts in all of football.

Los Angeles Rams Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 5-1
  • ATS: 4-2
  • O/U: 4-1-1
  • ATS - Home: 2-1
  • ATS - Away: 2-1

The reason I wasn't initially a firm believer in the Rams here is I thought they had more important things to worry about. The more I looked at it though, they have the Texans next week and the Titans after that, no look ahead spot in sight. They just got finished bullying the Giants and should take care of business here.

The Rams have one of the most explosive offenses in the league led by Stafford. I'm not the biggest narrative guy in the world but facing your former team gets you pretty fired up, so dishing out some punishment to his former squad might not be out of the cards. This team has an extreme run, and pass, block advantage this week and probably has more talent at every single position.

I honestly can't think of a real reason why I would bet on the Lions this week. While coach Dan Campbell is known for being a motivator there is only so much motivating you can do every single week to lead your team into disaster.

The Detroit Lions have lost 10 straight games. (AP)

Detroit Lions vs. Los Angeles Rams Betting Conclusion

Props are incredibly hard with such a one sided spread but we're going go with Jared Goff over 25.5 completions. He should be trailing all game and will need to continue slowly checking the ball down the field. I don't normally trust 'coach-speak' but Campbell publicly chewed him out after last week's game and I expect them to ask much more of him this week.
