Arizona Cardinals vs. San Francisco 49ers Predictions

After jumping out to an impressive 7-0 start to the new season, the Cardinals hit a minor roadblock last Thursday as they hosted Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers – which ultimately resulted in Arizona’s first loss, and concluded with QB Kyler Murray limping off the field with an ankle injury.

Murray is now listed as questionable for Sunday’s affair, and if he gets ruled out, that will leave the Cardinals’ quarterback duties to Colt McCoy – the journeyman out of Texas who made five appearances for the Giants and Washington across the last three seasons.

On the other hand, the Niners are having a frustrating first half of the season, highlighted by a pair of solid victories over the Lions and Eagles to open the season, which was followed by a four-game losing streak – leaving San Francisco in ambiguous betting territory ahead of last week’s matchup against Chicago (SF -4).

San Francisco finally showed out last week though, as the Niners’ offense scorched Chicago for 33 PTS on 467 YDS on the way to a commanding road victory (W, 33-22) – seemingly moving the needle enough to land as narrow favorites ahead of Sunday’s event against Arizona (ARI +2).

I’ll take the under here, as the Niners are extremely unreliable offensively, having scored 21 PTS or less in four of their last six games – and I doubt the Cardinals will be good for much more than that if Kyler can’t go.

Arizona Cardinals Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 7-1
  • ATS: 6-2
  • O/U: 3-5
  • ATS - Home: 2-2
  • ATS - Away: 4-0

After posting an impressive 7-0 start to the season, Cardinals’ fans held their breath through the end of last week’s loss to Green Bay, as not only did Arizona surrender its first loss of the season – Murray also appeared noticeably shaken up following his final play, leaving him questionable for Sunday’s matchup against San Francisco.

There’s no need to rush Kyler back into action, considering the Cardinals still boast a lofty 7-1 record and clearly have tons of football left to play – but if Murray is unable to play on Sunday, there’s no telling what we will see from Arizona offensively this week.

San Francisco 49ers Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 3-4
  • ATS: 2-5
  • O/U: 4-3
  • ATS - Home: 0-3
  • ATS - Away: 2-2

After falling a field goal shy of beating Green Bay for a third straight victory to open the season (L, 30- 28), the Niners drew another tough matchup in the Seahawks in Week 4 – which is when things took a noticeable downward turn for San Francisco, as QB Jimmy Garoppolo exited with a calf injury and turned over the offense to rookie Trey Lance for the remainder of their second loss (L, 28-21).

With Garoppolo’s injury appearing to be a factor, the majority doesn’t seem overly concerned about the Niners, considering they currently sit at 3-4 – and played two-and-a-half games with their backup quarterback.

San Francisco claimed surprisingly competitive victories over the Eagles and Lions during the first two weeks of the season though – but if they dropped one of those, the public would likely be viewing the Niners in a far more negative light.

Arizona Cardinals vs. San Francisco 49ers Betting Conclusion

After snapping a four-game losing streak with a win over Chicago last week, the Niners will enter Week 9 favored by two points over the visiting Cardinals – marking the seventh matchup San Francisco has been favored in this year.

I’ll take the under here, as there’s a decent chance the Cardinals’ will be without their starting quarterback on Sunday afternoon – but that might not matter much against a Niners’ squad that has scored 21 PTS or less in four of their last six games.
