Las Vegas Raiders vs. New York Giants Predictions

The Las Vegas Raiders have gone through a lot this season. Jon Gruden was fired and 2020 first-round pick Henry Ruggs III was released for driving under the influence in a crash that killed a woman early Tuesday morning. Despite all of this, the Raiders have managed to be the top team in the AFC West, and they are favored to move to 6-2 on the road this week against the New York Giants.

The Giants have been competitive in most of their games this season. They might be 2-6, but three of their losses have come by three points or less. That could mean Big Blue is ready to turn the corner, but the Giants are still dealing with a lot of injuries to their skill position players.

Las Vegas Raiders Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 5-2
  • ATS: 4-3
  • O/U: 4-3
  • ATS - Home: 2-2
  • ATS - Away: 2-1

Josh Jacobs ran for 1,000 yards in 2019 and 2020, but he will not surpass that total this season. Jacobs has had a hard time running the ball, averaging just 3.4 YPC for the Raiders. Las Vegas is in the bottom five in rushing offense, picking up just 3.5 YPC and 85.4 YPG on the ground.

That has put the pressure on Derek Carr to make things happen through the air. Carr is having another fine season, completing over two-thirds of his passes for 8.5 YPA, and he is on pace to throw for more than 5,000 yards in 2021. The loss of Ruggs will hurt though, as he led the team in receiving and averaged 19.5 YPR.

Hunter Renfrow, Darren Waller, and Bryan Edwards will be asked to help make up that production. The trio have combined for over 1,100 yards and five touchdowns this season.

Las Vegas’ pass defense has been one of the best in the NFL. The Raiders are allowing 6.0 YPA and 222.7 YPG through the air. They’ve done that despite recent draft picks Damon Arnette and Trayvon Mullen Jr. being placed on injured reserve over a month ago.

New York Giants Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 2-6
  • ATS: 4-4
  • O/U: 3-4-1
  • ATS - Home: 1-3
  • ATS - Away: 3-1

The Giants will be without Saquon Barkley and Sterling Shepard for at least one more week. Barkley hasn’t played since Week 5, while Shepard is dealing with a quad injury. John Ross and Kenny Golladay are listed as questionable too, but speedy rookie Kadarius Toney will be able to play on Sunday.

Toney has helped this offense stretch the field. He is currently the Giants’ leading receiver, and he had a monster performance against the Dallas Cowboys last month. However, he wasn’t able to have much success against the Rams and the Chiefs in his last two games.

Daniel Jones has not averaged more than 7.0 YPA for each of the Giants’ last three games. Jones has been able to move the chains with his legs though, and he currently leads the team in rushing with Barkley injured. Devontae Booker has only been able to muster 3.4 YPC in place of Barkley.

Big Blue ranks 14th in defensive yards per play. The Giants are 23rd in scoring defense and total defense, but they have been successful at getting off the field on third down. They rank 12th in third down defense.

The New York Giants have gone UNDER the point total in seven of their last eight home games. (AP)

Las Vegas Raiders vs. New York Giants Betting Conclusion

The Raiders might give up a big play or two to Toney, but the Giants don’t have the weapons to pull off the upset on Sunday. Carr will be able to make it work despite the loss of Ruggs, and the Raiders will stay atop the AFC West.
