Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cincinnati Bengals Predictions

The Steelers head to the Queen City with revenge on its mind. Not only are the Steelers steamed after posting a season-high 37 points last week on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers in a four-point loss, Pittsburgh is looked to even the score after losing 24-10 at home to Cincinnati back in Week 3.

The Steelers were favored by 2.5 points in that first meeting in late September as the UNDER connected. Pittsburgh has just two divisional games under its belt so far, and the UNDER has cashed in each of them, averaging 12.5 PPG while allowing 17.0 PPG. They're 1-1 ATS, with the underdog cashing in each of those two divisional tilts while the UNDER hit in each.

The Bengals snapped a two-game mini skid by pounding the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium last Sunday as 2.5-point favorites while the UNDER hit. The latter is most surprising, as the OVER had connected in each of the previous three. The Bengals offense has rolled up 31 or more points in four of the past five outings. While the defense has coughed up 20 or more points in seven of 10 games, they allowed a season-low 10 to the Steelers.

Pittsburgh Steelers Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 5-4-1
  • ATS: 4-6
  • O/U: 3-7
  • ATS - Home: 1-5
  • ATS - Away: 3-1

The Steelers covered the number in their high-scoring loss at L.A. Chargers on Sunday Night Football. So far this season, the Steelers have failed to cover in consecutive games, going 0-3 ATS in the past three following a cover. Pittsburgh is 2-1 SU while averaging 23.0 PPG on offense in those next three games following an ATS win, while allowing 24.3 PPG.

Pittsburgh really seems to relish the road of underdog, going 34-15-3 ATS in the past 51 road games against a team with a winning home record, while going 19-7-1 ATS in the past 27 as a road underdog. They have particularly enjoyed trips to the banks of the Ohio River, going 16-4-2 ATS in the past 22 trips to Cincinnati, while going 21-9-1 ATS in the past 31 meetings overall.

Pittsburgh has hit the UNDER in each of its two games against divisional foes so far this season, averaging just 12.5 PPG while yielding 17.0 PPG.

Cincinnati Bengals Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 6-4
  • ATS: 5-5
  • O/U: 4-6
  • ATS - Home: 1-3
  • ATS - Away: 4-2

The Bengals won by a 32-13 score last week against the Raiders on the road. Unlike the Steelers, the Bengals have covered in back-to-back games, but that happened just once in Weeks 6-7, consecutive wins in Detroit and Baltimore. Cincinnati is just 1-3 ATS at home, and it hasn't cashed since Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings in a 27-24 win in overtime as three-point underdogs. The OVER/UNDER has split in four home dates for the Bengals, too.

The OVER is on a 3-1 run for the Bengals, and the offense has exploded for 31 or more points in four of the previous five games, while going for 24 or more points in seven of 10 outings to date. The Bengals have yielded 20 or more points in six of 10 games, too.

The Bengals are just 1-4 ATS in the past five s a home favorite, while the OVER is 5-1-1 in the past seven for Cincinnati as a home fave. The OVER is 7-3-1 in Cincinnati's past 11 overall as a favorite, although the UNDER is 5-1-1 in the past seven meetings overall against the Steelers.

The OVER has connected in three of the past four games for the Bengals. (AP)

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cincinnati Bengals Betting Conclusion

"Weak people revenge. Strong people forgive. Intelligent people ignore." - Albert Einstein

Ol' Albert apparently wasn't a bettor or into football. All I can think about in this one is revenge, and I know the Steelers certainly are strong, and likely have no plans to forgive. Cheering for the Steelers, intelligence can certainly be debated there (sorry, Yinzers, I am from Cleveland originally!). But don't discount head coach Mike Tomlin getting his team ready, and he has likely pointed to Week 3 as a motivating factor all week long.

The Steelers rolled up a season-high 37 points last week, and I think this game has the potential of being a much, much higher scoring game than we saw in Week 3. The Bengals have to be licking their chops after watching film of the Steelers getting carved up by the Bolts last week. Look for them to emulate a lot of the Chargers offensive plan, as this is a copycat league.
