Washington Commanders vs. Detroit Lions Picks, Predictions, Odds

Week 2 of the NFL season continues Sunday afternoon as the Washington Commanders and Detroit Lions meet in an NFC matchup at Ford Field in Detroit. Coverage begins at 1:00 p.m. ET on FOX.

WASHINGTON COMMANDERS vs. DETROIT LIONS BETTING PREDICTION

The Commanders had a seesaw affair with the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1. Washington fired out to a 14-3 lead, and that's what the score was at halftime. The Jaguars scored 19 unanswered points to take a 22-14 lead into the middle of the fourth quarter before the Commanders came alive. QB Carson Wentz hit WR Terry McLaurin on a 49-yard score just over two minutes after Jacksonville's final score, re-taking the lead 22-20.

With less than two minutes left, WR Jahan Dotson scored on a 24-yard pass to put a bow on the scoring, 28-22. It was an unfortunate score if you bet Jacksonville on the money line, side or you had an UNDER bet. The Commanders saw Wentz go over 300 yards while throwing for four touchdowns, including two to the rookie Dotson, one to Scary Terry and one to WR Curtis Samuel.

The Lions led 7-0 with an early first quarter score from RB Jamaal Williams, but that was the last time Detroit would lead the game. The Philadelphia Eagles scored 21 unanswered points, including a pick-six of QB Jared Goff thanks to CB James Bradberry, and the Eagles never looked back.

Philadelphia led 38-21 heading to the fourth quarter, and Detroit continued to fight. Williams scored his second TD of the game, and WR DJ Chark Jr, scored on a 22-yard touchdown to close the lead to 38-35, but that was it. It was high-scoring, the late score gave the Lions the cover, but it was hard knocks again for Detroit in a season opener.

Score Prediction: Lions 34, Commanders 27
Best Bet: Lions -1.5 (-108)
Best Bet: OVER 48 (-110)

WASHINGTON COMMANDERS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Commanders are searching for their first 2-0 start since the 2011 season when they topped the New York Giants and Arizona Cardinals. The head coach was Mike Shanahan, the offensive coordinator was Kyle Shanahan and the defensive coordinator was Jim Haslett back then, and it was Sexy Rex Grossman starting at QB, while tossing passes to TE Chris Cooley, WRs Jabar Gaffney and Santana Moss, while heading it off to TB Tim Hightower. How's that for the wayback machine?

The Commanders haven't won in Detroit since Oct. 26, 2008, and the home team has won five of the past six in this series, with Washington covering just one of the past six meetings.

Washington heads into this game with a 7-2-1 ATS mark across the past 10 games overall, while going 3-1-1 ATS across the past five road games. The Commanders are also 5-2-1 ATS in the previous eight against NFC teams.

As far as totals, the UNDER has cashed in nine of the past 13 games overall, although the OVER hit in Week 1. The UNDER is 11-5 in the past 16 games as a favorite, while going 5-1 in the past six as a road favorite.

DETROIT LIONS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Lions are looking to bounce the Commanders, and maintain its mastery in the series, at least against the number. Detroit is 5-1 ATS in the past six meetings, and the Lions have cashed the past four meetings in the Motor City. The UNDER is also 8-2-1 in the past 11 meetings in this series.

While Detroit hasn't had a lot of straight-up victories, it has been money against the number. The Lions are 5-0 ATS in the past five home games, 8-2 ATS in the past 10 games overall, and 4-0 in the past four against teams with a winning record. It is also 8-2 ATS in the past 10 as an underdog, while going 6-1 ATS in the past seven games after a straight-up loss.

On totals, the OVER is 5-2 in the past seven games overall, while going 5-2 in the past seven as an underdog, too. The OVER is also 17-7 in the past 24 home games, while going 7-2 in the past nine games in the month of September.
