Texans vs Colts Betting Prediction & Odds for Saturday Night Football Week 18

Matchup Spread Total Moneyline

In the first few weeks of the season, Indianapolis jumped out to a promising start with new head coach Shane Steichen and rookie QB Anthony Richardson at the helm. The Colts offense averaged 24.5 points per game across a modest 3-2 split in their first five contests, with their two losses during that stretch coming in competitive battles against the Jaguars and Rams.

Richardson went down with a season-ending shoulder injury in Week 5, however – and for a brief moment, the Colts seemed destined to kick the can down the road until their QB returns next season. But to the surprise of many, Indianapolis has continued to plow ahead with a record of 7-5 with backup QB Gardner Minshew under center – as the Colts find themselves with an opportunity to clinch a playoff berth with a win over Houston this week with both teams sitting at a record of 9-7 entering this win-or-go-home matchup.

That said, the betting audience still isn’t buying into the current iteration of this Colts team. According to VegasInsider’s Patrick Everson, TwinSpires originally opened the spread for this contest at Colts -1. But as of Wednesday, the line had already jumped the fence and climbed to Texans -1 or -1.5 depending on the book due to 55% of tickets and 66% of the money coming in on Houston early in the week.

Quite frankly, I must agree with the general betting audience. This isn’t necessarily an indictment on the Colts’ campaign though. It’s more about the speedy evolution of this young Texans team, and my confidence in their ability to win a game with the season on the line.

The Texans own a record of 5-1 in their last five games started and finished by CJ Stroud, while racking up a lofty average of 26.5 points per game in those six contests. While on the flip side, Houston also has the better defensive unit in this matchup, currently ranked 13th in scoring and yards allowed per play, as opposed to the Indy’s defense ranking 27th in scoring and 18th in per play yardage.

I’m backing the Texans to punch their ticket to the playoffs on Saturday night.

Houston Texans Betting Analysis

The Texans stumbled out to an 0-2 start to the season. So Houston wasn’t exactly “the young, hot team” out of the gate – especially after losing a game to a fellow rookie QB / head coach combo in Week 2. However, Houston has officially claimed that title at this point, as the Texans own a record of 9-5 since their two-game skid to open the season – and their rookie QB / head coach duo has impressed in all facets.

Maybe the Colts will be able to reclaim their status of the “young, hot team” when Richardson returns next season. But as far as I’m concerned, the Texans deserve that title until further notice.

Indianapolis Colts Betting Analysis

Given the circumstances in Indianapolis this season, the fact that the Colts even have a chance to make the playoffs entering this week is quite an impressive feat. Even if their QB managed to stay healthy, nobody expected this team to make much noise in their first go-around with a rookie QB and head coach.

However, here we are: Gardner Minshew and the Colts are slated for a primetime matchup vs. the Texans with a playoff spot on the line in Week 18. If you say that you saw this coming since Day 1, you are a liar. Stuff like this is what makes the NFL so great.

Texans vs Colts Betting Trends

  • The total has gone UNDER in five of Houston's last seven games.
