CHAMPIONS LEAGUE MATCHDAY 6 ODDS & PREDICTIONS

The 2020-21 UEFA Champions League group stages continue this week with Matchday 5 action and there will be 16 games scheduled for Tuesday Dec. 8 and Wednesday Dec. 9.

After the Matchday 5 action, the oddsmakers have adjusted the future odds on all 32 clubs.

Along with eight top-rated selections for Matchday 6 below, I've also added my score predictions for the 16 games.

MIDTJYLLAND VS. LIVERPOOL

SCORE PREDICTION: LIVERPOOL 1 MIDTJYLLAND 0

TIP: LIVERPOOL TO WIN AND UNDER 2.5 GOALS AT 9/2

Jürgen Klopp will use this dead rubber at Danish champions Midtjylland to rotate his squad entirely.

Liverpool’s injury problems are serious, and this will be a very weak starting XI by Liverpool’s standards.

That said, they are still a much better side than Midtjylland and are worth backing in some form. Klopp will not demand a swashbuckling performance, but Liverpool’s second string is strong.

Diogo Jota is likely to lead the line, supported by Origi and Minamino. That would easily be enough to win the Danish league at a canter.

Liverpool to nick a tight game looks the bet.

AJAX VS. ATALANTA

SCORE PREDICTION: ATALANTA 2 AJAX 1

TIP: ATALANTA TO WIN AND UNDER 3.5 GOALS AT 4/1

Ajax and Atalanta are two of Europe’s most enterprising sides.

Operating on minuscule budgets compared with Europe’s supergiants, they have reached last season’s semifinals and quarterfinals respectively.

This promises to be a fantastic game and Ajax need to win to qualify. It is as simple as that.

But Atalanta went two stages further than the Dutch champions in last season’s competition and their squad is a lot more stable.

They picked up three points against group leaders Liverpool; Ajax lost both 1-0. Bookies expect a goalfest, and under 3.5 is as big as 4/5.

Ajax’s games with Liverpool were tight, as was Atalanta’s 2-0 win at Anfield. Atalanta look underrated, and the prospect of a 5-5 draw seems exaggerated.

FC SALZBURG VS. ATLÉTICO MADRID

SCORE PREDICTION: FC SALZBURG 1 ATLÉTICO MADRID 1

TIP: DRAW AT 13/5

Atlético Madrid lead La Liga with eight wins and two draws from their nine games, but it has been a different story in Europe.

They have just six points from five games and need at least a draw away to Salzburg to qualify for the knockout stages.

But this looks a game made for Diego Simeone’s men.

They have conceded just twice in La Liga this year.

Jan Oblak is indisputably the best goalkeeper in the world at the moment, and Atléti have far more experience in negotiating these kinds of assignments than Salzburg.

A draw at 13/5 is overpriced.

INTER MILAN VS. SHAKHTAR DONETSK

SCORE PREDICTION: INTER MILAN 2 SHAKHTAR DONETSK 2

TIP: SHAKHTAR DONETSK +1.5 AT 11/10

Group B has been fascinating in this year's Champions League. All four teams can still qualify.

Inter need to win and hope Borussia Mönchengladbach beat Real Madrid.

A win guarantees qualification for Shakhtar, while a draw would be good enough unless Real Madrid win.

Inter’s path is much trickier, and if there is bad news from Madrid their price of 2/7 might end up looking far too short.

Shakhtar are extremely inconsistent, doing the double over Real Madrid but losing 10-0 on aggregate against Gladbach.

Their recent record in Europe is extremely patchy, and Shakhtar are worth backing, either on the handicap, draw no bet, double chance or just to win the game outright.

DYNAMO KIEV VS. FERENCVÁROS

SCORE PREDICTION: DYNAMO KIEV 2 FERENCVÁROS 1

TIP: OVER 2.5 GOALS AT 10/11

Dynamo Kiev and Ferencváros have both made a decent fist out of an impossible-looking group.

They have not got the points to show for it, but Dynamo only lost 2-1 in Barcelona while Ferencváros were cruelly denied a draw at Juventus by a late winner.

The two sides then look set to play out an entertaining game. This is effectively a play-off for the Europa League spot.

A draw would probably be enough for Ferencváros but their general approach in the group has been bold. They have hit the net twice against Juventus and once against Barcelona - no mean feat for a side of their resources.

Over 2.5 goals is a nice bet here at 10/11.

RB LEIPZIG VS. MANCHESTER UNITED

SCORE PREDICTION: MANCHESTER UNITED 2 RB LEIPZIG 1

TIP: MANCHESTER UNITED TO WIN AT 15/8

Manchester United were bailed out by their exceptional individual attacking talent at West Ham at the weekend, overturning a 1-0 deficit to win 3-1. It continues an excellent run away from home for United.

Although they only need a draw to qualify in Leipzig, they can go one better and win. They have won eight of their nine away games this year and won the reverse fixture 5-0.

This game looks well suited to United’s style. Needing a win, Leipzig will go for it, leaving space for United to counter-attack.

They are value to win here - and if you want more for your money, a bet on them winning and both teams scoring is a good bet too at 15/4 - that has copped in six of United’s eight away wins this year.

CHELSEA VS. KRASNODAR

SCORE PREDICTION: CHELSEA 3 KRASNODAR 0

TIP: CHELSEA TO BE WINNING AT HALF-TIME AT 4/6

Chelsea are creating more good chances than any other side in England at the moment.

Their xG of 4.9 against Leeds United was the highest of any team in a Premier League match this season and the Blues can deliver more goals against Krasnodar.

Even though they went 1-0 down early, the first half an hour was probably Chelsea’s best spell of that match. It was another fast start, and they equalised before the half-hour mark.

This game is a dead rubber, so Chelsea will probably ease off in the second half.

Therefore, backing them to score early again and be leading at half-time seems like a banker at 4/6.

RENNES VS. SEVILLA

SCORE PREDICTION: SEVILLA 1 RENNES 0

TIP: SEVILLA TO WIN AT 5/4

This is another dead rubber. Sevilla are guaranteed to finish second and Rennes will finish bottom, but that does not mean there are no good bets to be found.

Rennes have found their first adventure in the Champions League difficult and Sevilla can respond to their 4-0 humbling by Chelsea with a win.

Rennes’s form is awful. They have scored just four goals in their last nine games and may rest quite a few players to concentrate on improving their league form.

Sevilla’s European record is generally great. They are usually good defensively and they can keep Rennes at bay here.
