The opening round of this season’s NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs is coming down to the wire. One of the most exciting best-of-seven series in the Western Conference pits the Calgary Flames against the Dallas Stars. Heading into Friday night’s Game 6 clash in Dallas, the Flames hold the 3-2 series lead.

Slated for a 9:30 p.m. (ET) start at American Airlines Arena, Betfred has opened the Flames as -160 road favorites with the total line set at 5.5 goals. Calgary has won the last two games after the Stars took the early 2-1 series lead.

As far as betting on Friday night’s Flames at Stars game, the early consensus at VegasInsider leans towards the Flames on the money line and the OVER on the total. Calgary came into the playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the Pacific Division. Dallas had to battle its way into the postseason as the No. 4 seed in the Central.

With Wednesday’s 3-1 win in Game 5 as heavy -220 home favorites on the closing money line, the Flames have now outscored Dallas 7-2 in the last two meetings. The Stars had a 6-2 scoring edge in its two victories in this matchup. Calgary drew first blood at home in Game 1 with a 1-0 grinder as a heavy -230 favorite at Betfred.

The total has now stayed UNDER in four of the first five games with the betting line set at 5.5 goals for each contest. Going against the high scoring trends for most of the other opening round NHL playoff series, betting the UNDER on Friday night could be the way to go.

Jacob Markstrom has gotten hot in goal for the Flames behind a stellar effort by the defense in general. He stopped 34 of the 35 shots he faced in the 4-1 victory in Game 4. In Wednesday night’s 3-1 win, Markstrom only faced 21 shots on goal.

Recent betting trends for these two teams also favor another lower scoring game. The total has stayed UNDER in six of Calgary’s last seven games. It has stayed UNDER in five of its last six games playing as the favorite. The total has now stayed UNDER in six of the Stars’ last eight games against a team from the Pacific Division.
