Coming off an impressive victory in their season opener, the nationally-ranked Seminoles are looking to make a deeper move in both national polls with another victory this Sunday. Florida State comes into the new season with high expectations after going 18-7 straight-up last season.

Florida should present a solid test as one of the better teams in the SEC this season. The combination of veteran talent and some new additions to the roster gives the Gators a completive starting five along with some decent depth on the bench.

The rivalry aspect to this matchup aside, Florida State has a significant edge in this in-state series over the past several years. The Seminoles have won the last seven meetings straight-up and they have covered against the spread in the last eight games. Look for both of those streaks to continue this Sunday afternoon.

FSU Seminoles Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

The Seminoles made short work of Penn in their season opener last Tuesday with 105-70 romp. They easily covered the 19.5-point spread while making sure the game went OVER the 145.5- point total line.

Leading by 12 points at the half, Florida State ramped things up to more than double that margin at the final buzzer. While the team shot an impressive 49.3% from the field, this was not one of the Seminoles’ more memorable performances from outside the arc with 31.8% shooting from three-point range. They did outrebound the Quakers 49-29.

Senior forward Malik Osborne led the way in scoring with 18 points while going 4-for-6 from the field and 9-for-12 from the free throw line. He posted a double-double in his season opener by pulling down 13 rebounds. Guard Anthony Polite added 17 points to the winning effort.

Four of Florida State’s five starters ended that game in double figures with eight different players contributing 38 points off the bench. Sunday’s competition is going to be quite a bit tougher. However, the Seminoles should be up to the task.

Florida Gators Betting Analysis

The Gators faced Elon in last Tuesday’s season opener. While they came away with the 74-61 victory, they failed to cover the closing 18.5-point spread. The total stayed UNDER the 137.5- point line.

It is hard to read too much into this initial effort. While Florida failed to cover, the outcome of the game was never in doubt. The Gators opened up a 47-24 lead after the first 20 minutes of play and then took their foot off the gas in the second half.

Both forward Colin Castleton and guard Myreon Jones looked impressive in their season debut with 18 points each. Jones was 4-for-8 from three-point range Florida shot 42.4% from the field and 32% from beyond the arc with four of five starters scoring in double figures. The Gators had a 43-34 edge in rebounds.

The only concern in this lopsided win was the lack of scoring from Florida’s bench with just 10 points added to the total. The Gators are going to need a bit more production from this group in Sunday’s tilt.

FSU Seminoles vs. Florida Gators Betting Conclusion

Heated rivalries such as this tend to add betting value to the underdog. This is especially true when they are playing at home. However, Florida State appears to be the better team in this matchup and that should lead to a SU win on Sunday afternoon.

The Seminoles also have momentum on their side with the current SU and ATS winning streak against their in-state rivals. Sometime one team has another team’s number and that has been the case in this particular matchup.

Florida State is 10-10 SU in its last 20 road games with a 8-11-1 record ATS. That sketchy record does adds some intrigue to betting this game but it does not change my predicted outcome The total has gone OVER or ended as a PUSH in six of the Seminoles’ last seven games played on the road.

The Gators have failed to cover the closing spread in their last five home games with a SU record of 3-2. The total has stayed UNDER in six of their last eight games at home.
